Overwatch 2 players beg Blizzard to undo “terrible” Zenyatta nerf
Blizzard EntertainmentSupport Hero Zenyatta was given a substantial nerf in the mid-season update of Overwatch 2 Season 7, but players are desperate for Blizzard to undo the changes as the character now feels “terrible” to play.
The Overwatch 2 meta is always evolving, as Blizzard constantly release buffs and nerfs to the roster of Heroes with each major update. The Season 7 patch brought plenty of balancing changes before more arrived in the mid-season update.
One of the most substantial nerfs was to Support Hero Zenyatta, who received a major adjustment to his Orb of Discord. The Orb can no longer be switched between enemy players at will, instead, there is a short cooldown between uses.
That said, Overwatch 2 players who main Zenyatta have called for the devs to revert the change, claiming it’s made the Hero significantly worse to play.
Reddit user ‘EmeraldDream98’ posted arguing that “Zenyatta is now counterintuitive” after the change, before going on to explain how it has affected the way they approach matches.
“Since the new changes I’m trying hard not to spam discord orb just because and do it carefully and holding it till the ‘right moment,'” they continued. “I don’t understand why they didn’t nerf the amount of damage increased done by the orb instead or even make tanks untargeteable or something like this. Waiting a million seconds to put an orb again is terrible.”
Plenty of other Zenyatta mains agreed, mentioning that their favorite Hero is much less fun to play as a result, as well as being less influential in each game. One of the main issues mentioned was that it can be unclear which enemies the Orb of Discord can be used on in Overwatch 2.
“I just played a bunch of Zen yesterday for the first time since the discord nerf and man does it feel like s**t,” said one reply. “After a few matches I started to get the hang of it better but the game really needs a better way to show you who is discord-able.”
Some also claimed that Zenyatta now feels “clunky” to use compared to before the update, with many feeling the nerf was “rushed.”
Fans were desperate to see Blizzard revert the Zenyatta changes in a future patch. Overwatch 2 Season 8 is the next major, so we’ll have to wait and see if the Hero is on the receiving end of more tweaks, as players look to contend with the new Tank Mauga.
