Overwatch 2 players call for classic map to return & it’s good news
Blizzard EntertainmentOverwatch 2 players have expressed their desire for Hanamura to return, and the good news is that they won’t have too long to wait.
Overwatch 2 introduced a new map mode, Push, in place of the classic 2CP from the first game. Although 2CP was not a fan-favorite, some players liked it more than Push mode.
This also goes for the maps that were designed as 2CP. Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, Volskaya Industries, and the ever-hated Paris and Horizon Lunar Colony were all 2CP maps taken out of role queue when Overwatch 2 launched.
Now, though, some players say that they miss Hanamura. Set in Tokyo, the cherry blossoms and iconic place where Hanzo tried to kill Genji was where this map set the stage for gruelling team fights in the first Overwatch.
In a post titled ‘Wish we could have this map back’, Redditor ‘NoDamnPomegranates’ said, “It was not always fair, but it had such great design and was just fun to play here and there.”
The good news, as some players pointed out, is that Hanamura is part of the map rotation Blizzard is using to introduce the new Clash mode coming in 2024. “For me Hanamura was always the best looking map, but almost half of all 2CP games ended in a draw, so it’s great they’re working on something ideally more competitive,” a player commented.
Renamed to Hanaoka, the new Clash map is inspired and reworked exactly from Hanamura. It will be the first Clash map, and the 44th overall map released in Overwatch. Players spoke about their excitement to see the return of Hanamura.
“I love this map the most [because] this is where the Hanzo and Genji cinematic happened. My most favorite cinematic ever,” a fan commented.
