Pokemon Go is entering a new era thanks to Rediscover Pokemon Go, and the first big change to the experience came with new avatar customization options.

Can you change gender Pokemon Go?

No, you can’t change your gender in Pokemon Go, but you can change your avatar’s body type in the game.

Rediscover Pokemon Go added a “range of new avatar customization options” that include “adjustable body weights, eye colors, and skin tones, plus new facial expressions and hairstyles,” according to the official Pokemon Go website. Now, trainers have different “choices for weight, muscle, shoulders, chest, and hips” to customize their appearance in-game, although it seems no one is happy about it.

How to change your avatar’s body type in Pokemon Go

To make use of the new Pokemon Go avatar customization options, you can change your body type by following these steps:

1. In the overworld Map View, tap your Trainer’s face in the bottom left.
2. Tap Style under the XP bar.
3. Tap Appearance.
4. Tap Body.
5. Select the body type you want for your avatar.
6. If you’re not happy with any preset, you can scroll down and tap Custom to adjust different attributes.
7. Once you have customized the Weight, Muscle, Shoulders, Chest, and Hips sliders, exit the menu tapping the X button in the upper left corner.
8. Going back to the avatar screen will apply your selections.

You can do this as many times as you want until you’re satisfied with the results. Additionally, on the Style screen, you can change your clothes and accessories. Niantic added new free items to celebrate Rediscover Pokemon Go, so you can give them a try.

Why did your Pokemon Go avatar change?

Your Pokemon Go avatar changed because the developers are bringing new visuals to the mobile game after seven years with Rediscover Pokemon Go.

The avatar changes arrived on April 17, and players can expect new background screens to arrive on April 22. Pokemon from Gen 1 will also get new visuals on April 22, and new AR features will be added on May 7 to round up Rediscover Pokemon Go. All these changes come weeks before the Pokemon Go Fest 2024 in-person events.
