How to beat Emboar 7-Star Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
The Pokemon CompanyPopular Fire/Fighting-type Pokemon Emboar is back for its second round of Scarlet and Violet 7-Star Tera Raids, and you need to build a solid team of counters that can beat this starter.
So here are all the details on the weaknesses, recommended counters, and battle strategies to get the job done.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Emboar Tera Raid date & time
Emboar Tera Raids will run until June 23, 2024, at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET / 12:59 PM BST / 11:59 PM GMT.
Keep in mind that Emboar caught during the event will have the Mightiest Mark and six perfect IVs. Also, while you can only capture one of them per save file, you can still battle it again to claim Herba Mystica.
Emboar Tera Raid type & moveset
Emboar has the Electric Tera Type in its 7-Star Tera Raid, so it is only weak to Ground-type attacks.
Here’s the Raid moveset:
- Flare Blitz (Fire)
- Heat Crash (Fire)
- Bulk Up (Fighting)
- Drain Punch (Fighting)
- Wild Charge (Electric)
- Head Smash (Normal)
Keep in mind that Flare Blitz, Wild Charge, and Head Smash will have their damage output boosted by 20% courtesy of Emboar’s ability, Reckless.
Best counters
The top counters to defeat Emboar Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are Gliscor, Garchomp, and Swampert. These three are strong Physical Ground types that take advantage of Electric Tera Type Emboar’s weakness and low Defense stats of 65.
Also, these counters are immune to Emboar’s Electric-type move Wild Charge, which gets powered up via Reckless. They also resist at least one of Emboar’s Fire or Fighting STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) moves.
Gliscor
The Ground/Flying-type Gliscor is a deadly counter to Emboar, dealing super-effective damage with the powerful Earthquake. Gliscor can shrug off Wild Charge and use Swords Dance to boost its 95 Attack stat by two stages, making Earthquake more potent.
Taunt is a great way to prevent the Raid Boss from using setup moves like Sunny Day or Bulk Up, both of which can make Emboar more difficult to handle. Roost helps it recover after being hit by coverage moves while its ability, Poison Heal, goes flawlessly with the Held Item Toxic Orb to regain HP each turn.
Garchomp
Pseudo Legendary Pokemon Garchomp has always been a reliable force in Scarlet and Violet battles and it doesn’t disappoint in beating Emboar either.
With a fantastic 130 Attack stat, its Earthquake hits extremely hard and after being boosted by Swords Dance, can even OHKO the Raid Boss. With Garchomp’s impressive bulk, it can tank Emboar’s attacks to use Swords Dance without stress and proceed to knock it out.
One major advantage of using Garchomp is that Emboar doesn’t learn any moves that Garchomp is weak to, making this powerful Dragon/Ground-type beast an asset to your team.
Swampert
With Swampert headlining 7-Star Tera Raids before Emboar in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, many trainers are bound to have this powerful Gen 3 starter on their side.
Remember that Swampwert is 4x weak to Grass-type attacks and Emboar has quite a few in its learnset like Grass Know, Trailbaze, and even Solar Beam. So, you can go with Tera Ground to negate the glaring weakness to a great extent and also get 2x STAB on Earthquake.
Additionally, you can use the move Rain Dance to weaken Emboar’s Fire-type moves, helping you and your teammates greatly.
