Best Gimmighoul 5-Star Tera Raid counters in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Annihilape

Annihilape debuted in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet and quickly became a fan-favorite attacker.

The Ghost/Fighting-type evolution of Primeape is one of the top picks for Tera Raids, no matter what Pokemon you’re facing. In this case, Annihilape can deal tons of damage to Gimmighoul, allowing you to OHKO it with its signature move Rage Fist.

Equip it with Shell Bell in case Gimmighoul lands super-effective Ghost-type moves, and build it with moves like Bulk Up and Screech for the first turns. These will increase Annihilape’s Attack and Defense by one stage and lower Gimmighoul’s Defense by two stages, respectively.

Meowscarada

Meowscarada guarantees critical hits with its signature move.

If you picked Sprigatito as your starter, Meowscarada is a great pick for this Tera Raid Battle. Its Dark/Grass combination makes it resistant to Ghost-type moves, so that’s a great start. On that note, Night Slash is a great Dark-type move that deals damage with STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus).

Meowscarada’s signature move, Flower Trick, always lands Critical Hits. It’s a great option to deal neutral damage or super-effective damage if Gimmighoul has the Water, Rock, or Ground Tera Types. By using Hone Claws in the first turns, you’ll raise its Attack and Accuracy to finish Gimmighoul off with ease.

Kingambit

Kingambit's Pokedex entry in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Kingambit is tough to get but totally worth it.

As a Dark/Steel-type Pokemon, Kingambit resists everything Gimmighoul can throw at you, so it’s another great choice for this Raid. You should start the battle with Swords Dance to raise Kingambit’s Attack to then deal damage with STAB using Kowtow Cleave. Shadow Claw is another great option if you face a Gimmighoul with the Ghost Tera Type.

Since Gimmighoul has a random Tera Type each time you challenge it in Raids, the counters are based on their resistance to Gimmighoul’s moveset instead of their ability to deal super-effective damage against it.

Gimmighoul Tera Raid moveset

  • Take Down (Normal)
  • Shadow Ball (Ghost)
  • Hex (Ghost)
  • Power Gem (Rock)
  • Nasty Plot (Dark)

You should pick counters that can resist Ghost-type moves, as they’re the biggest threat in Gimmighoul’s arsenal. Take Down and Power Gem shouldn’t give you any trouble, especially if you Terastallize during the Raid.

Keep in mind that this moveset is based on the previous Gimmighoul Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. We’ll make sure to update this section if it changes with the new event.
