Catching any species in Pokemon Go gets much easier when you level up your Buddy, as they give a 20% chance for landing the best throws even when Poke Balls are thrown back at you by encounters.

While this is a core feature to help you catch even the most frisky Pokemon, it appears buggy for many players, especially after the 0.317.0 update that made catches impossible.

The catch mechanics were fixed in the 0.319.0 version, but the Buddy Catch Assist bug remains for many players. So, if you’re looking for a fix to this nagging issue, here are all the details.

How to solve Buddy Catch Assist bug

You can fix the Buddy Catch Assist issue by turning off the ‘Native Refresh Rate’ toggle. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Tap on the Poke Ball icon at the bottom of your home screen.
  2. Go to ‘Settings’ located at the top-right corner.
  3. Scroll down the menu to ‘Advanced Settings’ and click on it.
  4. Under the ‘Quality’ category, find the ‘Native Refresh Rate’ toggle and turn it off

Remember that doing this lowers the graphics quality to some extent. That said, there’s no reason to worry as you can still play all parts of Pokemon Go.

Buddy Catch Assist explained

You can enjoy Buddy Catch Assist by becoming Great Buddies with your Pokemon.

By feeding Berries, taking a snapshot, playing, participating in battles, and walking with your Buddy daily, you can become Great Buddies once you get two hearts on the Friendship Level, activating the Catch Assist feature.

The Buddy Catch Assist is of great help if you’re trying to farm tons of XP with Excellent Throws. Make sure that you use a Nanab Berry to calm down the species first and then aim for the center of the catch circle when it narrows down to the smallest size.

If you want to know some of the best Buddies to level up in Pokemon Go, go for Lucario, Annihilape, and Dragonite.
