How to get Shadow Shards in Pokemon Go
Currently, there are two ways to get Shadow Shards in Pokemon Go:
- As a reward for defeating a Team Go Rocket member.
- As a reward for winning a Shadow Raid.
Defeating a Team Go Rocket Grunt will grant players only one Shadow Shard. Alternatively, beating a Team Go Rocket Leader rewards players with three Shadow Shards. Team Go Rocket Boss Giovanni gives players four Shadow Shards when defeated. These rewards are 100% guaranteed alongside Mysterious Components to build the Rocket Radar.
On the other hand, winning a Shadow Raid can give players between one and six Shadow Shards. The amount of Shards depends on many factors, like damage output, accolades, and other Shadow Raid bonuses.
How to make Purified Gems in Pokemon Go
To craft one Purified Gem, Pokemon Go players need to collect four Shadow Shards. Once players get the Shards, the Purified Gem will appear automatically, the same way getting enough Mysterious Components creates a new Rocket Radar.
Players can hold up to 10 Purified Gems in their inventory, and both Shadow Shards and Purified Gems use storage space.
What are Shadow Shards & Purified Gems in Pokemon Go?
Shadow Shards are an item in Pokemon Go that players can get in Team Go Rocket activities like battles and Shadow Raids, while Purified Gems are items players can use against Shadow Raid bosses to get them out of their enraged state.
While Shadow Shards don’t do anything on their own, collecting four of them will let you create a Purified Gem using Professor Willow’s Shard Refiner.
Shadow Raid Pokemon can enter an enraged state, boosting their attack and defense power. So, players can use Purified Gems to lower their stats and subdue them. While they aren’t necessary against lower-tiered bosses, Purified Gems can come in very handy for more powerful ones. What’s more, if different trainers use Purified Gems in a Raid, their effects can stack to give them a better chance at victory.
