How to separate Calyrex from Glastrier or Spectrier in Pokemon Sword and Shield
Pokemon Sword and Shield introduced Calyrex with the Crown Tundra DLC. If you’ve completed the first adventure of the new content, check out this guide on how to separate Calyrex from Glastrier or Spectrier.
Over the years, the Pokemon franchise has released a wide range of Pokemon with unique abilities and evolution techniques. While some like Hoopa have alternative forms, others like Eevee have eight different evolutions.
One such outstanding Pokemon available in Sword and Shield is Calyrex. It can combine itself with either Spectrier or Glastrier and significantly increase its power.
Pokemon Sword and Shield also allows you to separate Calyrex from Spectrier or Glastrier and here’s how to do so.
How to get Spectrier or Glastrier in Pokemon Sword and Shield by separating Calyrex
Follow these steps to separate Calyrex from Glastrier or Spectrier in Pokemon Sword and Shield:
- Add Calyrex to your party and ensure that it still has one spot left.
- Open the in-game bag and select the Key Items section.
- Choose Reins of Unity and select ‘use this item’.
- Select Calyrex and it will split up. You will either get Glastrier or Spectrier.
You can also merge the Pokemon back with Reins of Unity by following the same procedure.

Reins of Unity is an item that you get during The Sacred Bonds of Sovereign and Steed quest that arrived with the Crown Tundra DLC. You’ll be expected to combine White/Black Mane Hair with the Radiant Petal to obtain it.
Why separate Calyrex from Glastrier or Spectrier in Pokemon Sword and Shield?
You cannot use the merged version of Calyrex in battles, which is one of the biggest reasons why it’s better to separate it from Glastrier or Spectrier. Although Calyrex is stronger when merged, you can still make the most of its Psychic powers.
Separation also allows trading Calyrex, Glastrier, and Spectrier individually. Here’s some information about them:
- Calyrex (separated) – Psychic-type
- Calyrex (with Glastrier) – Ice and Psychic-type
- Calyrex (with Spectrier) – Ghost and Psychic-type
- Glastrier – Ice-type
- Spectrier – Ghost-type
All in all, Calyrex is a great addition to your collection and you won’t regret its presence in any form. Moreover, the Reins of Unity makes it really easy to separate and combine it with Spectrier or Glastrier.
