The speedy Noivern can be a menace to your opponents in Pokemon battles, so here’s all about its weaknesses, resistances, strengths, and best moves.

Dragon types are as strong as ever in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, with Miraidon, Roaring Moon, and Baxcalibur ruling the meta. But there’s one Pokemon that can surprise even the toughest of opponents, the Flying/Dragon-type Noivern.

This Gen 6 fan favorite may not be as powerful as Salamence and Dragonite, but using it well can win you plenty of Pokemon battles. So, here are the weaknesses, resistances, strengths, and recommended moves for Noivern.

Noivern weaknesses explained in Pokemon

Noivern is weak to Dragon, Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type attacks in Pokemon. Note that it is 4x weak to Ice-type moves, but with Terastallization, you can remove this concerning weakness.

While Steel, Normal, and Fairy are some of the popular picks for Noivern, I’ve found the Normal Tera Type to be the best for winning more battles. Keep in mind that Noivern isn’t too bulky, so I wouldn’t advise trying to tank hits with it and go to an offensive role straight away.

Noivern resistances explained in Pokemon

Noivern’s resistances include Bug, Fighting, Fire, Grass, and Water-type attacks, and it is immune to Ground-type attacks in Pokemon.

Resisting these types makes it a great counter to the Paldean starter trio of Meowscarada, Skeledirge, and Quaquaval in Gen 9 teams. Also, the immunity to Ground-type moves is a boon and I’ve freely switched into powerful moves like Earthquake and Earth Power hundreds of times.

Noivern strengths explained in Pokemon

Noivern hits Bug, Fighting, Grass, and Dragon-type Pokemon super-effectively with its STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) Flying and Dragon type moves.

It has a Special Attack stat of 97 but what truly makes it deadly is its blistering 123 Speed stat. By slowing down the opposition with Sticky Web or having Tailwind users like Hydreigon or Murkrow as teammates, Noivern can outspeed a majority of the meta. I’ve eliminated OP threats like Koraidon, Great Tusk, and Iron Valiant using this epic Pokemon!

But Noivern’s USP has always been the powerful Normal-type move, Boomburst, boasting a whopping 140 base power and 100% accuracy. With the Normal Tera Type, Noivern gains STAB and dishes out incredible damage figures.

Best Noivern moves in Pokemon

The best moves for Noivern in Pokemon battles are Boomburst, Hurricane, Draco Meteor, and Taunt.

  • The 140 base power Boomburst is a given, being the scariest tool in Noivern’s kit. Don’t forget to use the Normal Tera Type before using this move.
  • Hurricane is another powerful move with 110 base power but only being 70% accurate typically. But, if Rain is active, this move is guaranteed to hit, making Noivern a great teammate to Kyogre, who can bring Rain as soon as it switches in.
  • Draco Meteor is yet another OP move, having 130 base power but lowering Special Attack by two stages on use. I’d advise switching out after using this move so that the lowered offenses are reset when you bring it back to the battlefield.
  • With naturally high Speed, Taunt is an extremely viable move that prevents opponents from using setup moves to boost their stats.
