Pokemon Go Popplio Community Day (August 2024)
Niantic/The Pokemon CompanyGen 6 starter Popplio is all set to headline the Pokemon Go Community Day in August 2024. Trainers will enjoy bonuses, an exclusive move, and boosted shiny chances during the monthly event.
Here’s all you need to know about the Community Day event featuring the popular Water-type Pokemon.
Popplio Community Day date & time in Pokemon Go
The Popplio Community Day event takes place on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 2 PM to 5 PM (local time). During this time, Popplio spawns will be heavily boosted around your location, and will even be attracted more often to Incense and Lure Module.
Popplpio is rare in the wild outside of events, so this is a great opportunity to catch as many of them as you can and power up its evolution for battles.
Can Popplio be shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, shiny Popplio is available in Pokemon Go.
The odds of encountering shinies during the event will be boosted to 1 in 25 or a 4% chance. After the event, the shiny chances will be the usual 1 in 512 encounters.
Popplio Community Day featured move
The Water-type Charged Attack Hydro Cannon is the featured move for the Popplio Community Day.
To get it, you’ll have to evolve Brionne (Popplio’s evolution) during the Community Day hours or up to five hours afterward to get a Primarina with Hydro Cannon. In other words, be sure to complete the evolution between 2 PM and 10 PM local time on August 31, 2024.
This Water-type move boasts 80 power in Trainer battles and 90 in Gyms and Raids. Hydro Cannon is the move every fully-evolved Water-type starter gets during their Community Day. It’s one of the most powerful Water-type moves in the game and it only requires 50 Energy in Gyms and 40 in Trainer battles, making it a great pick for any species that can learn it.
Bonus Raids
After the August 2024 Community Day ends, you can take on special 4-star Raids featuring Brionne. Winning one of these bouts will cause more Popplio to appear around the Gym that hosted the Raid for the next 30 minutes. Shiny spawns will also be boosted in this case.
It’s worth noting that you can join the Brionne 4-Star Raids only with regular Raid Passes and Premium Battle Passes. Remote Raid Passes cannot be used in this case.

How to prepare for Community Day
- You’ll need a lot of Poke Balls to catch as many of the featured Pokemon as you can.
- Berries are useful to catch Pokemon more effectively or increase the number of Candy obtained.
- Make sure you have enough space in your Pokemon Storage Box.
- Save Lure Modules and Incense for the Community Day since they usually last longer during the event.
- You can also use the PokeCoins you’ve earned during the week to spend on other useful items, like Lucky Eggs for more XP or Star Pieces for bonus Stardust.
Keep in mind that the bonuses for the event and the effects of these items stack, so be sure to take advantage of that.
Make sure to stay up to date with the Spotlight Hour schedule to enjoy more bonuses and boosted spawns, as well as how to beat Mega Lucario in Raids during the Ultra Unlock events.
