Pokemon Go dev shuts down declining profit rumors & reveals 10-year plan
NianticThe top brass at Niantic have confirmed all’s well with Pokemon Go and brushed off rumors of declining revenue, as they guarantee bigger and better things coming to the game in the next decade.
Ahead of the 10th anniversary of Pokemon Go, the Senior Vice President at Niantic, Ed Wu, addressed the plan ahead for the revolutionary Pokemon game in the next 10 years, assuring fans that things are looking up.
Eurogamer’s interview with Ed Wu highlighted several excerpts on the future of Pokemon Go. This emerged after the community continuously voiced their displeasure with the Remote Raid Pass nerf in 2023, along with some media bodies claiming Niantic’s earnings dropped to a record low.
The senior VP put these claims to rest and laid out the company’s grand plans ahead. Wu said, “We’re putting a lot of investment into ensuring it’s a great game and has really firm foundations for the next 10 years.”
With the eight-year-old mobile game hitting its 10th-anniversary milestone soon, Wu set the tone for what lies ahead. “As we gear up for that 10th anniversary, we want a refresh that’s befitting that next decade,” they mentioned, before adding that they’re focused on personalizing the game even more.
“We’re refreshing our avatar system next with a more improved experience, updated assets – a modern system that can offer more customization.”
Coming to the elephant in the room, the so-called decline in earnings, Wu remarked: “When we see third-party reports on Pokemon GO [revenue] decreasing, I can say, very clearly, that they are wrong. And we know they are wrong because they don’t have access to that data. They don’t have visibility into non-mobile numbers. Pokémon GO grew last year, including last spring,“ citing the success of Go Tour 2024: Sinnoh.
With the Go Fest 2024 extravaganza on the horizon, players hope to see Pokemon Go on a growing curve while ensuring better communication with its fans for years to come.
