Pokemon Go doesn’t need another costumed Pikachu

Pokemon Go players are tired of seeing so many different costumed versions of Pikachu in the mobile game and are asking Niantic for a little more variety.

Pokemon Go often celebrates special events by giving players the chance to catch rare or unique species alongside costumed Pokemon and Legendaries or Ultra Beasts in Raids for a limited time. While many enjoy the activities these events bring, others are tired of the repetitive rewards attached to the events.

Trainers are gathering on Reddit to talk about their frustration with costumed Pikachu in Pokemon Go. User ‘TheLastStoryTold’ started the discussion by saying: “Niantic has made Pickachu the most lack luster Pokemon for me. I don’t even catch one when I see it anymore.” Player ‘Alert-Judge-6767’ added the worst part is most of them “can’t even evolve.”

Pikachu that only wear special hats can evolve in Pokemon Go, but others wearing more complex costumes can’t, and trainers can’t even send them to Pokemon Home. This means players are stuck with their costumed Pikachu, which is often the only reason to buy a Pokemon Storage upgrade in the game.

“Fine, but there’s no way you are stopping that train. There will be more hats and flowers. Forever,” commented another player on the Reddit post. Niantic already announced two new costumed Pikachu for Pokemon Go Fest 2024, so there’s no avoiding it.

Some trainers admitted they like costumed Pikachu as long as it’s more than a hat or a crown, like the recently added Pikachu Ph.D. Another player also added: “Most of the costumed Pokemon that aren’t Pikachu are random Pokemon with flower crowns and that’s boring.”

Other Pokemon games, like Pokemon Unite, also feature special costumes for Pokemon, and many Pokemon Go players think they could serve as inspiration for other species. “Gimme a Froslass in a Kimono. Mr Mime with a clown outfit,” stated one Reddit user.
