Niantic have introduced filters in Pokemon Go featuring the Dynamax and Gigantamax icons, putting an end to speculation that the new mechanics are coming soon.

Leaks detailing the arrival of the Dynamax feature and thus Gigantamax Pokemon in the mobile game arrived back in May 2024. Since then, players have been eagerly anticipating some official news about the debuting mechanics.

While leaks have hyped its arrival, nothing is sure to get fans going quite like an official teaser, whether intended or accidental. On August 5, Serebii’s Joe Merrick brought attention to in-game filters featuring the Dynamax and Gigantamax logos.

The official details about how the mechanics will be integrated into Pokemon Go and any mention of release date are nowhere to be found. But the appearance of the icons in-game confirming the feature is sure to light more fuel to the fire for fans awaiting its arrival.

Merrick discovered the filters after downloading an update on August 5. It didn’t take long for more players to chime in with similar experiences, witnessing the icons themselves.

Dynamax was the new mechanic introduced in Gen 8’s Pokemon Sword and Shield games. The feature consists of a temporary transformation during a battle that increases a Pokemon’s size, strength, and grants them access to specialized moves.

Gigantamax is a form of Dynamax that’s only available to certain Pokemon species. This special Dynamax changes the appearance of the Pokemon in addition to making it much bigger. Classic Pokemon like Pikachu, Charizard, and Eevee all have Gigantamax forms.

With no statement from Niantic, it’s unclear whether the filters being viewable is intentional or if it’s the result of an accidental reveal.

When a release date for the Dynamax and Gigantamax features is revealed, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, you can keep busy by tackling Raids or challenging Team Rocket.
