The fan-favorite Dusk Form Lycanroc will finally debut in Pokemon Go, but players are disappointed with a certain catch regarding the evolution condition for Rockruff to get this rare form of Lycanroc.

A new event called ‘Lustrous Odyssey‘ has been announced in Pokemon Go and it will feature the debut of one of the most popular Pokemon in the franchise, Dusk Form Lycanroc.

While Rockruff typically evolves into either Midday or Midnight Form Lycanroc, the Dusk Form is particularly sought-after due to its rarity in the mainline games and being the Pokemon that helped Ash Ketchum win the Alola League Championship in the anime.

While Pokemon Go players were initially abuzz with excitement at the opportunity to finally add Dusk Form Lycanroc to their Pokedex, the event has a certain limitation that has fans feeling “mad” and disappointed.

After Reddit user ‘Rapha_AK’ shared a post with the “Lies, deception” meme stating “That moment when you won’t be able to evolve your 2yo shiny Rockruff to Dusk Lycanroc in the new event,” the comments section was filled with users who could relate to the OP’s thoughts.

For those unaware, the Lustrous Odyssey event will feature Rockruff in 1-Star Raids, Eggs, and Field Research, and only those Rockruff caught or hatched on and after the event can have a chance of evolving into the elusive Dusk Form Lycanroc in Pokemon Go.

This means that trainers who have been keeping a previously obtained 100 IV or shiny Rockruff to evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc won’t be able to get it done.

Frustrated players called the evolution catch “bizarre” and stated that they were “hurt” by it. “It doesn’t make any sense,” a fan wrote before adding: “I was bummed out by that.”

Another user commented: “I have a perfect Rockruff I’m so mad,” as a good number of fans had stored a Rockruff to evolve for many months now.

But a few players mentioned that this evolution condition is in line with the main series games (MSG) where only a few Rockruff can evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc.

While Pokemon Go trainers understood the reasoning, they argued that not letting previously added Rockruff evolve is not the correct thing to do.

“Nullifying all existing Rockruff that have only ever been available via eggs and raids (outside rare DAI spawns) ain’t it. This has nothing to do with “knowing the lore” of the MSG and a continuation of hard cash grabs by Niantic,” a player wrote.

With only new Rockruff being able to evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc, the community will hope to grab 100 IV and shiny variants of the Pokemon during the event.
