Beating the Dark-type Team Rocket Grunt in Pokemon Go is proving to be quite a task for players as they realize a glaring mistake that many are making in choosing their team of counters.

Defeating Team Go Rocket Grunts in Pokemon Go is one of the many challenges players have to face in their quest to become a top Pokemon trainer in the popular mobile game.

These villainous NPCs reward you with Stardust and a Shadow species encounter, capturing which can give you a competitive edge in PvP and PvE battles.

Fans have faced them for years now and their pre-battle taunts hint towards the Pokemon type they use, with one particular Grunt throwing everyone off-guard.

This came to light after a Reddit user named ‘pip_larus’ shared a meme about how the Dark-type Grunt uses the Poison/Dark-type Alolan Muk in the battle, halting all Fairy and Fighting-type counters that the Shadow team is weak to.

Though pure Dark-types are weak to both Fairy and Fighting-type attacks, Alolan Muk’s additional Poison-type does not take super-effective damage from them and even takes out Fairies without trouble.

Users slammed the difficult battle by commenting: “So true, I enter with my fairy types and I leave with 3 dead Pokemon and a broken heart” and “It even has Kanto Muk sometimes.”

While the current Team Rocket rotation in Pokemon Go has Alolan Muk, players have it tougher when the Grunts lineup changes and Kanto Muk is included. This is even worse, as Kanto Muk resists both Fairy and Fighting-type attacks.

As players continued to make the mistake of not tagging some reliable counters for the “annoying” battle, one person shared a quick tip to avoid the mishap. “If I see the Dark-type catchphrase it will give me a team that has some Ground moves on it.”

This prompted some players to share how they no longer fumble the bout. “I always pack an Excadrill in the 3rd spot for when this inevitably happens,” a fan said before another added: “I’ve just started stacking my party with Garchomp at this point.”

On collecting the Team Rocket Radar after beating the Grunts, here’s how to beat Leaders Arlo, Sierra, and Cliff in Pokemon Go.
