Pokemon Go‘s Raids and Research quests have been taken over by Ultra Beasts (UBs). While getting XL Candies for them is a major challenge due to their low drop rates, you can use Mega Evolutions.

With an active Mega-evolved species in your collection, you earn bonus XL Candies by catching Pokemon sharing any of the Mega’s types.

So you can take advantage of this trick while catching free UBs from the Inbound from Ultra Space Timed Research. Further, the community revealed certain Megas whose bonuses cover multiple species.

Reddit user ‘TYRONNEsaur’ suggested the Fire/Dragon-type Mega Charizard X to get bonus XL Candies from Guzzlord and Blacephalon. Additionally, Mega Scizor, with its Bug and Steel combo, includes Kartana, Celesteela, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, and Stakataka.

Although rare, you can use any Electric type for the powerful Xurkitree. Luckily, a fan came to the rescue, saying: “Primal Kyogre also works for Xurkitree candy if you don’t have an electric mega.”

Primal Kyogre is a Water-type species but its Reversion affects Electric types as well, hence the bonus from this Legendary.

Another mentioned a popular Mega to farm XLs from several Ultra Beasts. They advised using Beedrill to get more XLs for Bug types and Nihilego since you can get endless Mega Energy for this Gen 1 icon simply by spinning Gyms.

Finally, you can also grab extra XLs for all Ultra Beasts in one go. To do this, stack the Timed Research rewards and then catch them with the associated Megas or Primals active.

Remember that you don’t need the active Mega to be your Buddy or on the map. As long as you have it Mega-evolved, the XL bonuses will be available for eight hours. Also, keep in mind that you can get the bonus from Raid UBs as well.

Once you catch all the available Ultra Beasts, power them up for GBL and Raids. Guzzlord is particularly amazing for the Great and Ultra League, while Buzzwole is a powerhouse in Pokemon Go’s Master tier.
