Unlucky Pokemon Scarlet & Violet player loses fan-favorite shiny after ‘jumpscare’
The Pokemon CompanyA Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainer who came to the Crystal Pool in Kitakami in the Indigo Disk DLC was left in disbelief after they missed a rare shiny Koffing encounter due to a badly timed cutscene.
After defeating the Legendary Terapagos in the Indigo Disk DLC of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, fans usually head back to their League Club room to celebrate their newly caught Pokemon and interact with various NPCs from Paldea and the DLC locations.
But there’s more to the game as players can find rare items in the Terarium and also visit Kitakami for an encounter with Professor Sada/Turo, triggered by Terapagos.
Many players are unaware of the cutscene leading to this mysterious meeting with the ‘dead’ professor at Crystal Pool and one trainer found this out the hard way as they ended up losing one of the most sought-after things in the game, a rare shiny!
The trainer, named ‘whiaer’ on Reddit, shared a clip of them reaching the Crystal Pool in Kitakami and noticing a shiny Koffing on the screen, only to be interrupted by the sudden cutscene leading to the moment that leads to the encounter with the professor.
“YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME,” the frustrated OP wrote while adding: “I could [have] gotten a shiny Koffing….( far left on the screen) instead I was rewarded with a cut scene…”
Fellow Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players sympathized with the OP’s shiny fail, as they commented: “That blows” and “Like, couldn’t it be with a bad shiny?”
Fans should note that shiny Koffing is a highly sought-after Pokemon as its shiny version has a distinct coloration, unlike other species like Minior or Duraludon.
A player stated: “I didn’t know about this cutscene either I was just getting to my 6-star raid and it triggered. God that hurts since shiny Koffing is cool assuming you have what’s necessary to capture it.”
More trainers mentioned that they had no idea about the cutscene. “Really should have known I would get a cut scene there… I didn’t know,” the OP commented before another added:
“I’m actually really surprised by how many people just randomly happened to be in this exact location in Kitakami with Terrapagos in their party and then got jumpscared by the cutscene deleting a shiny.”
The cutscene addresses a lot of questions about the events in Area Zero as well as Paradox Pokemon, so it is crucial to the storyline. However, most players are unaware of this, so shiny hunting should be done only after the encounter with the professor.
