“Unreal” Pokemon Scarlet & Violet player uses Magikarp to OHKO 7-Star Mewtwo
The Pokemon CompanyThe 7-Star Mewtwo Raid event is in full swing in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and players are preparing the best counters to beat the Legendary species. However, one player has done the impossible by using the “pathetic” and “weak” Magikarp to beat Mewtwo.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players are sparing no effort to defeat the challenging 7-Star Mewtwo Raid event and add the powerful Pokemon to their teams. Beating Mewtwo is no easy task and it’s important to build the best counters to get the job done.
However, one player defeated the challenging Raid by using the last Pokemon that anyone would expect to see on the battlefield: Magikarp. Known in its Pokedex entries to be “weak,” “useless,” and “pathetic,” Magikarp should hardly be able to do any damage to the Legendary Mewtwo. But the player pulled it off with a brilliant strategy that has amazed fellow fans.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet player uses “unreal” Magikarp strategy to beat Mewtwo
As shared in a Reddit post by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player ‘Nommable123,’ the OP managed to secure an OHKO (One-Hit Knockout) against Mewtwo the Unrivaled in its ongoing 7-Star Raid event.
You should note that Mewtwo is one of the strongest Pokemon of all time and Magikarp is one of the weakest. So, the OP came up with a mind-blowing strategy that helped him achieve what many thought was impossible.
To begin with, here’s the team setup:
- Magikarp with Metronome as a Held Item, the ability Rattled, and the moves Flail, Tackle, and Splash.
- Koraidon with a Mirror Herb and Orichalcum Pulse.
- Rabsca holding a Mirror Herb and the ability Synchronize.
- Azumarill with a Lansat Berry with the ability Huge Power.
Here’s a detailed step-by-step look into the strategy used to defeat Mewtwo with Magikarp:
- Magikarp used Defense Cheer to ensure higher survivability during the battle.
- Azumarill used Soak on Koraidon to change it to Water-type and take no super-effective damage from Mewtwo.
- Magikarp used Splash for a tactical KO and Mewtwo reset its stats.
- The moves Snarl, Mud-Slap, Struggle Bug, Snarl, and Rock Smash were used to decrease Mewtwo’s Special Attack by six stages.
- Magikarp used Flail to charge up its Normal Tera-type.
- Azumarill used Belly Drum to maximize its Attack stat.
- Azumarill then flung a Lansat Berry at Magikarp for a Critical Hit rate boost.
- Rabsca then switched the boosted stats to Magikarp with Power Swap and Skill Swap.
- Koraidon and Azumarill used Helping Hand and Attack Cheer on Magikarp.
- Finally, Maikarp Terastallized to the Normal type and used Flail to defeat Mewtwo in just one hit
It goes without saying that other players were amazed at how brilliant the strategy was. One commented, “Just the other day I was reading a Mewtwo raid post and someone was saying there was no way Magikarp guy could pull it off. It would be too hard. But here we are.”
Another wrote, “You never fail to impress me. Everybody give this man a round of applause.”
Players were coming to terms with just how amazing the OP’s strategy was as one player said, “Unreal. They found a way.”
Players can now try to come up with their ideas or even use this very Magikarp strategy in 7-Star Mewtwo Raids, which are available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet until September 17.
In the meantime, check out how you can get Armourage, one of the good counters for Mewtwo Raids, and all the new Pokemon in the Scarlet and Violet DLC.
