Is Rainbow Six Siege cross-play? PC, Xbox & PlayStation guide

Cross-play and free-to-play models are now the industry standard for multiplayer games, so here’s what that means for Rainbow Six Siege.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is one of the most popular and competitive FPS titles in the world, so it’s no surprise that players want to team up and play with friends no matter their preferred device. Rainbow Six: Siege does have cross-play, with improvements coming.

Cross-play has become the industry standard for multiplayer games. Gaming has never been more connected, with players across Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Switch, and even mobile playing together.

What’s also begun to rise in popularity is the free-to-play model. Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, Apex Legends, and more all offer their full multiplayer experience for free with cross-play across multiple platforms.

At Ubisoft Forward in June, we finally received new information about crossplay in Siege, with some big updates to come to the game in early 2022. Here’s everything you need to know about Rainbow 6 Siege cross-platform play.

Rainbow Six Siege cross-play

Rainbow Six Siege does feature cross-play, but only for consoles in the same family, and between PC and Stadia. That means if everyone in your party owns a PS4 or PS5 you’ll be able to play together, but not with those who own Xbox consoles.

The good news is that this will change in early 2022 when cross-platform play will be opened up to everyone who plays on consoles. This means that anyone on any console can team up, regardless of whether it’s a last-gen or next-gen device.

However, Ubisoft have made it clear that they don’t intend to mix console and PC lobbies, so you’ll never find a PC player in your lobbies.

How to turn off cross-play in Rainbow Six Siege

If you’re not keen on playing with players from different consoles than your own, it is possible to turn off cross-play in the game’s settings. If you should decide to do this, then fair warning – this will likely make it harder to find games.

To turn off Rainbow Six Siege cross-play:

  1. Open Rainbow Six Siege, and go to the settings menu by selecting the ‘cog wheels’ on the top-right.
  2. Head to the General section, and scroll down to Crossplay Matchmaking.
  3. Set it to off, then move to Crossplay Communication and turn it off too.

Rainbow Six Siege cross-progression

On top of cross-play, Rainbow Six Siege will also be getting cross-progression. That means your inventory will carry from one platform to another, free of charge, as long as they are linked on the Ubisoft website.

It’s important to note that your rank won’t transfer with you though. For example, if you’re Platinum on your console, don’t expect to log in on PC and see the rank there. Ubisoft will also be unable to refund players who purchase items on two different platforms.

Will Rainbow Six Siege go free-to-play?

With the free-to-play model being so popular in the industry, Rainbow Six Siege’s devs have previously discussed the possibility that the game will be free in the future.

Speaking to PCGamer in 2020, Siege game director Leroy Athanassoff discussed making the game free-to-play. They said, “We want the game to be accessible to everyone,” but there are certain hurdles that must be overcome first.

The main one is smurfing – when an experienced player creates a new account to match against newer and lesser-skilled players. NICKMERCS has previously shown the power of smurfing in Warzone, and Siege’s devs are worried that it would plague Siege if it ever became free-to-play.

So, Siege may become free-to-play in the future, but the devs first need Siege to have “certain features ready to be a good and successful free-to-play game.”

GTA V and Elden Ring could come to mobile with Xbox Cloud Gaming

Xbox Cloud Gaming could see both GTA V and Elden Ring come to mobile, as reports claim that plans are underway.

Reports are claiming that both GTA V and Elden Ring could be seen on mobile, as Xbox ramps up their Cloud Gaming plans.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is a new service from Microsoft which will allow players to enjoy their library of games on various devices including mobile versions.

The idea is to allow Xbox Game Pass Ultimate owners to play their favorite games on devices other than an Xbox console. This can be done on either the Xbox Game Pass app or Xbox.com, and they have already announced that players will have access to “over 100 console games.”

To the community’s surprise, rumors are suggesting that both Elden Ring and GTA V could be part of the scheme, which would mean that both games will be available on mobile for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members.

According to Knoebelbroet, Xbox is “ramping up their plans to bring Games that are not part of the #XboxGamePass to Xcloud,” claiming that games “like GTA V, Soul Hackers 2, and Elden Ring” could be a part of that plan.

The Tweet also contains an image of both Elden Ring and Soul Hackers 2 on the Xbox Cloud Gaming website, but the Twitter user advises that the community should take this “with a grain of salt.”

It would be pretty big to see games like Elden Ring and GTA V on mobile, as these games are some of the most popular around. We saw Apex Legends take to mobile in 2022, so perhaps there’s more to come for mobile gamers.

Apex Legends’ popularity reaches new heights after Season 14 update

With the release of Apex Legends Season 14, the Battle Royale game is experiencing an unprecedented amount of active players.

Apex Legends Season 14 has achieved a new peak in popularity for Respawn Entertainment’s FPS Battle Royale game.

Apex Legends Season 14 brings some exciting new content to the game after the battle royale saw a slight dip in popularity towards the end of last season.

Luckily for Respawn, the brand-new Legend Vantage, overhauled Kings Canyon map, and huge Level Cap increase has been a massive hit with the fans, despite players finding bugs and glitches.

The new content has been so appealing that the game has even reached a new all-time peak player count on Steam, showing just how popular Apex Legends Season 14 is.

As of August 10, 2022, Apex Legends has a peak of 510,286 concurrent players, which is the highest it has ever been.

Although it’s only Steam‘s player count, this still shows just how popular the new Season of Apex Legends currently is.

Of course, the numbers are likely to decrease after launch week, but this is still impressive, especially as it shows that the game’s popularity is actually increasing despite being in its fourteenth season.

As Respawn continue to update and introduce new exciting content to the game, the player count will likely continue to rise, especially when players are now guaranteed an Heirloom.
