Report: Depth of CoD 2021’s integration with Warzone remains ‘uncertain’
According to a new report from VGC, Call of Duty 2021’s full integration with Call of Duty: Warzone is still being determined.
In a new article citing sources, VGC states that Call of Duty 2021 title will see a basic integration with Call of Duty: Warzone that is expected from the new Call of Duty progression systems.
The game will most likely share both the weapons and overall player progression systems upon its release later this year.
But beyond that, a deeper integration remains uncertain, per their sources. Call of Duty 2021, which is reportedly set during WWII, will face challenges fully integrating because of its radical change in setting from both Modern Warfare and Cold War.
VGC says that whether there will be a full new Warzone map for the 2021 game is “uncertain” because of “scheduling issues and shift in setting.” VGC says there could be a potential revamp in 2022, or Activision could hold on a full new map until the 2022 Call of Duty game releases.
As of now, the two games are expected to share weapons and overall progression similar to the integration between Cold War and Warzone. This is something Activision executives have already alluded too in statements, saying Warzone will be ‘front and center’ for Call of Duty for ‘years to come.’
When Black Ops Cold War first launched in November, Warzone only got the game’s Operators to start. Later in December, with Season 1 of Cold War, Activision fully integrated both Warzone & Cold War together – from the progression system to Battle Pass unlocks to weapon integration.
Many fans were upset with how the overall integration went, with Warzone receiving a large batch of new weapons that altered the game’s meta.
Activision executives confirmed back in February 2021 during an earnings call that the studios “learned a lot” on how to best integrate Warzone with premium releases after the Cold War integration in December 2020.
VGC has reported that Call of Duty: Warzone is set to receive a much bigger ‘Black Ops themed’ revamp in April, when a ‘nuke event’ is set to change Verdansk and the game overall. It’ll be a dramatic shift for the title, the biggest since its launch.
Activision executives have also said in recent interviews that Cold War’s ‘1980s theme’ brings a “lot of new opportunities” for content for Warzone.
