Kotaku’s bombshell report today on what’s happening with 2020 Call of Duty game also included a component of this year’s Call of Duty title.

Kotaku reports that Activision is looking to embrace free to play and the 2019 new Modern Warfare title could have a free to play component attached with it, but the plans for this could change as they are not set in stone.

Internally, Activision executives have started to talk about embracing free-to-play as a revenue model—once anathema to the publisher—and, three sources say, are looking into offering a free-to-play component for this year’s new Modern Warfare, although the specifics may not be finalized yet. Some within Activision have remained resistant to the idea.

Activision has been discussing the idea of free to play for a while now, based on their investor calls recently. The company has been open to embracing the idea of free to play, but have been very vague on what that means or where it’s going to go for Activision titles.
