With Resident Evil 4 Remake available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, newcomers will get a chance to experience the iconic survival horror game with updated graphics and mechanics.

Those who played the original on the GameCube will also have a lot to discover considering these new features and changes made by the devs. One of these major changes consisted of removing the franchise’s staple quick-time events (QTEs).

To replace QTEs, the devs implemented a parry system to make the Resident Evil 4 Remake just as exhilarating and suspenseful as the original.

How to parry in Resident Evil 4 Remake: Parrying explained

To parry in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, you’ll have to equip a knife and press LB/L1/Space Bar as an enemy is attacking you.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to parrying:

1. Equip a Knife and have it out.
2. Wait for an enemy to launch an attack.
3. Press the parry button (LB, L1, space bar) just as the enemy is attacking.
4. If timed properly, you’ll see sparks as the parry will succeed and normal enemies will be stunned.
5. If a white marker appears over the enemy’s head, you can counter with a melee attack.

The two key components of a successful parry in Resident Evil 4 Remake are a Knife and timing.

In RE4, Knives are extremely useful as they can be used offensively to stab, but also defensively to execute a parry.

Keep in mind that a Knife in Resident Evil 4 adheres to the durability scale. This means that you’ll need a Knife that is whole to pull off a successful parry.

Parrying in Resident Evil 4 is a great technique to master as it not only prevents Leon from taking unnecessary damage, but it will allow you to turn the tables by countering with a melee attack. This strategy effectively turns defense into offense when you’re in a pinch.
