Roblox’s iconic “oof” sound has been removed and fans are devastated
The “oof” sound in Roblox is one of the most iconic death sounds in gaming history, but unfortunately, the devs have had to remove it from the game, leaving fans devastated.
Roblox has a very dedicated and passionate fanbase of both creators and players that has been growing ever since its release back in 2006.
During this time, Roblox players have been enjoying the absolutely massive library of games with the most popular having over 20 billion visits. In these games, players often meet their end when they are tasked to overcome a certain goal, ending in the iconic “oof” death sound.
Unfortunately, this beloved sound has officially been removed from the game, and here’s why.
RobloxWhile tweeting out about their plans to add “any assets, including sounds” in the Avatar Shop to allow creators to thrive, the Roblox devs also announced the removal of the “oof” sound on July 26.
The removal of the Roblox “oof” sound is due to a “licensing issue,” as the creator of the original sound, Tommy Tallarico, took legal action against the developers after talks to settle the issue fell through.
Although it seems like something small, the sound has been present since 2006, making it a staple audio cue in the Roblox experience that many find nostalgic.
With that being said, its removal has left many players and fans alike disappointed that it has been replaced with a “default sound.”

Despite announcing more customization options for players, stating that users will be able to “customize sounds for their avatars in the same way they customize clothing,” players in the comments of the Twitter announcement have been voicing their disappointment.
“literally the final thing that stayed the same since our childhoods on roblox and now its gone,” explained one devastated Roblox player. “literally all of the life of roblox has been sucked out and honestly its ruining the game.”
Another user also expressed disappointment while thanking the devs for being transparent: “Thanks for telling us, Instead of just leaving us confused and sad I’m very disappointed, but I understand.”
The Roblox devs did announce that they plan to extend the Avatar Shop with “a whole range of both old and new sounds in the future,” so we’ll have to see if this compensates for the loss of the iconic “oof” sound when it launches.
