Rockstar Games are cutting back on Red Dead Online content so that they can focus their attention on the development of GTA 6 instead.

Grand Theft Auto fans have been patiently waiting for information about GTA 6 ever since the developers confirmed that the game is in development, but official news has been extremely scarce.

Now, Rockstar Games have finally given players an official update regarding GTA 6’s production, confirming that they’re focusing their attention on the long-awaited sixth installment in their popular open-world game series.

On July 7, Rockstar released a community update in which they thanked players for their unmatched enthusiasm and commitment before announcing that they’re steadily moving more resources towards GTA 6’s development.

They added that in order to get this done properly, they’re making a few changes to how they support their ongoing titles. While Red Dead Online will continue to receive new content, Rockstar’s main focus will be on the Grand Theft Auto series.

GTA Online will receive a major update in a few weeks in order to keep Los Santos “as dynamic and unpredictable as ever.” Their goal with GTA 6 is to make it exceed players’ expectations and for this new installment to be “the best it can possibly be.”

This lines up with a recent leak that Rockstar are slowing down on their plans of releasing more updates for the Trilogy Definitive Edition so that they can also focus on the production of GTA 6.

Despite this, Red Dead Online will still get new additions through monthly and seasonal events. Rockstar will also build upon existing modes and add new Telegram Missions throughout the remainder of 2022.

While some players might be disappointed to learn that Red Dead Online will be receiving less support, it’s reassuring to know that the long-awaited GTA 6 is finally moving forward. Hopefully, we’ll get an official reveal in the near future.
