Rockstar scrapped GTA IV & Red Dead Redemption remasters, claims insider
One Rockstar Games insider claims that the company was working on remastered versions of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, but both projects were then scrapped.
The Grand Theft Auto series has been such a huge global success that Rockstar Games have released a next-gen version of GTA V as well as remasters of older titles like GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas.
This has caused players to wonder whether or not Rockstar Games will remaster other popular titles, and one insider claims that the company had plans to do just that. However, it seems like those plans didn’t work out.
GTA IV was a huge hit after its release in 2008, and the first Red Dead Redemption won over players just two years later. It’s no surprise then that players have been hoping to see both of these titles get remastered.
Notable leaker ‘Tez2’ claims that a “reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar plans” informed them that remasters of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption were in consideration a few years ago. However, Rockstar chose to scrap both of these projects.

The GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption remasters were “in the ideas phase” for years, but production never began. Development was allegedly set to start after the release of the Trilogy Definitive Edition.
The Trilogy Definitive Edition became the lowest-rated Metacritic title ever, and Tez2 added that its poor reception might be the reason that both of these plans were ultimately abandoned.
For many, the idea of both remastered editions being scrapped is disappointing. However, it’s important to keep in mind that these are just leaks that have not been verified by official sources, so take this information with a grain of salt.
