UPDATE: Activision Support has provided more information on the pre-load of the Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 patch.

The first group of PS4 gamers were able to download on August 3 at 2AM ET and the second group will be able to on August 4 at 2AM ET. The groups are randomly selected.

All PlayStation 4 players will be randomly separated into two groups to pre-download.

The first group will be able to begin pre-downloading on Sunday, August 2nd, 48 hours before the update goes live. The second group will be able to begin pre-downloading on Monday, August 3rd, 24 hours before the update goes live.

If you have Automatic Downloads enabled on your PlayStation 4, your pre-download will begin automatically as long as your PlayStation 4 is turned on or in Rest Mode. Please note: Automatic Downloads is only available with PlayStation Plus.

If you have Automatic Downloads disabled, or your PlayStation 4 was turned off, follow these steps to manually initiate the pre-download:

  1. Highlight the Modern Warfare or Warzone tile on the PlayStation 4 homescreen.
  2. Press the Options button.
  3. Select Check for Updates.

Activision Support says this is only for PS4 because Xbox does not support pre-load of a patch update.

Xbox does not support the ability to pre-download. Similarly, Battle.net does not currently support pre-downloads for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Warzone.

Original Story:

PlayStation is allowing some users to pre-load Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 patch update ahead of its upcoming launch.

The new patch update is version 1.24. The update rolled out across PS4 platforms for some users overnight on August 3 on their PlayStation 4 console. Not all users are able to see the update at this time.

The patch update is 36GB download, but players cannot install the update until August 4 at 11PM PT / August 5 at 2AM ET.

This is the the first time Sony is allowing such a thing for a patch update on their platform. Previously, users had to wait for the actual update to go live in order to start downloading and then play it.

Infinity Ward has stated that the Season 5 update will be a large update file, but once the install is done, the overall games size will reduce on the consoles.

This pre-load is only for PS4 users. Pre-load is not available on Xbox One or PC.
