Who is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s new villain?
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor puts Cal Kestis and his crew in the firing line of a brand-new villain, but who is he? Here’s everything we know about the antagonist of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Picking five years after the story of Jedi: Fall Order, its follow-up, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, is looking to go bigger and better. The sequel expands on the original in a number of ways, adding brand-new fighting stances and fan-requested features like fast travel.
Fans can expect a much darker story this time around, as Cal tries to stay one step ahead of The Empire. After successfully avoiding the Second Sister in the first game, the Jedi is faced with a new threat looking to end his order once and for all.
Here’s everything we know so far about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s villain, and how they fit in the larger Star Wars canon.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor villain explained
The main antagonist of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be a new character called Rayvis, a Gen’Dai who believes that the Jedi should cease to exist.
Rayvis has never appeared in any other Star Wars media up until this point, but fans will be aware of the Gen’Dai species. These heavily-armored creatures are notoriously hard to kill, and the popular character Durge carried out numerous missions for Count Dooku and The Separtists during the Clone Wars.
Following the first trailer for Jedi: Survivor, many thought the Gen’Dai shown was Durge himself, but the devs have now confirmed that it’s a new character created specifically for the game.
Little is known about Reyvis and what drives him, but in an interview with IGN, Respawn Cinematic Director, Dori Arazi, did shed some light on this interesting new villain.
He said: “Rayvis is not just this ‘gruff grunt #7’ who can take an army down. He’s got a long past. He’s seen a lot of history. He could be a thousand years old. He’s seen empires rise and fall, he’s seen the Jedi rise and fall, he’s seen the rise of the actual Empire itself. So he’s got a lot of tragic history and a lot of depth that we try to explore.”
As both are among the last of their kind, it seems that there will be a number of parrels between Rayvis and Cal that will play out over the course of the game’s story.
“There’s a perspective to this species that’s so long-lasting,” said Lead Writer Danny Homan. “Seeing the Republic turn into the Empire, and you know, when we’re thinking about Cal’s journey and his own experience, any character he meets provides a new perspective on the Jedi and the republic. And Rayvis has seen it all.”
We’ll have to wait for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to arrive before we get a full picture of who Rayvis is and where he fits in the story, but we’ll be sure to update this page with the latest information.
