Bethesda’s Starfield is rich in quests and decisions that players need to make to advance in the game. One such mission, known as Alternating Currents, is an intriguing sidequest that becomes accessible relatively early in your playthrough.

But when it comes to making the choice in the said mission, many players get confused about whom to side with. However, it’s worth noting that your choice won’t drastically alter the course of the game.

Choosing to side with either Zoe or Louisa can help improve your standing with their respective factions. Here’s everything you need to know about the Alternating Currents quest and who to give the data to between Louisa and Zoe in Starfield.

What is the Alternating Currents quest in Starfield?

The Alternating Currents quest in Starfield is the first mission in Louisa’s questline and can be accessed directly from her location in the Well, under New Atlantis. To start the quest, you will have to complete the Taping the Grid mission first.

Once you complete this, you can return back to Louisa to start the Alternating Currents quest. The major steps in the mission are:

1. Teaming up with Zoe from the Trade Authority and searching for the junction boxes.
2. Traveling to Athena Tower in the Residential Area of New Atlantis and powering down the junction box to get in.
3. Infiltrating the tower and gathering the evidence you need.
4. Handing over the data to either Zoe or Louisa.

People tend to have an easy time with this quest until the last part, where they have to make a choice among the NPCs.

Who should you side with in Starfield Alternating Currents quest?

Although this choice in Starfield seems to be a tricky one, it really does not matter who you hand over the evidence to in the grand scheme of things. Whether you side with Zoe or with Louisa, you will get 2000 credits and 75 XP either way.

Still, there can actually be some minor consequences. If you hand over the data to Zoe, you will be in the Trade Authority’s good books, instead of the MAST, and vice versa if you choose Louisa. As there is no major downside or upside to choosing either of them, you can go with anyone you like.
