Starfield player discovers strange NPC who’s “more natural and lifelike” than main cast
BethesdaA Starfield player claims to have found an NPC that looks way more realistic compared to the characters from the main storyline.
Starfield players have been traversing the game’s massive world and encountering countless new and unique things. Whether it’s some strange aliens dancing, massive loot in a hidden location, or even some hilarious bugs, the Starfield community is always uncovering something new.
Now, a player has come across an NPC whose facial features look more detailed than any of the companions from the main storyline.
Starfield has been praised for a lot of things, but its graphics aren’t one of those. It looks a bit dated, especially when it comes to the character’s faces. Players have complained that they often look soulless and lack any emotion. Meanwhile, current-gen games like Cyberpunk 2077 have highly detailed NPCs with extremely lifelike facial animations.
However, Starfield player Jakeola1 stunned the community when they found a realistic-looking NPC. The NPC in question is a random Technician who is inconsequential to the main plot. The OP asked the Starfield subreddit if it was just them or does this NPC really look better. To this, another Redditor responded that it’s just the lighting.
While this seems anticlimactic, most Starfield players agreed that this was indeed the case. One user explained, “Yep, I’m finding with a lot of games these days that there’s a huge variation in ‘quality’ just from the lighting. Like, areas with good lighting look pretty amazing and then an area with different lighting looks really bad. It’s a shame because it makes a game really inconsistent.”
Another user then clarified that “the dead eye meme was a result of a ambient occlusion bug as well.” The NPCs appeared lifeless and serious situations were made amusing by this bug in Starfield. They then went on to add that Starfield also had some stunning details that many players wouldn’t notice.
“Standing near any light (Ship hab light is best) in your underwear, you would see how good the lighting and character mesh/texture really is.” They also stated that the “character texture is really good as well,” which would be possible only with mods in Fallout 4 or Skyrim.
