Starfield players complain one extremely useful feature is missing

Starfield is already out for Early Access players, but some of them have noticed an important missing detail about the interface that can be quite annoying.

Starfield players are roasting Bethesda in Reddit due to a very important feature not being present in the game. The map function is somehow missing, and players are angry about it.

The latest Bethesda Softworks Sci-Fi RPG may be their first new IP in years, but they have plenty of experience developing immersive and massive open-world RPGs. Players find it surprising that a detail such as a location map is not present in the game.

Players sharing their experiences and impressions of the game quickly turned into sour complaints after some of them pointed out the absence of location mapping in Reddit: “Absolutely loving the game, but this did have me puzzled xD Spaceships, robots, lasers but no portable maps lol.”

It might seem difficult to understand why Bethesda chose to disable the map function on locations in Starfield, but there is still a way to guide yourself through the many places you need to visit. The user interface has a “guide” function that works with the Scanner by pressing the F button on PC or LB on Xbox.

As one of the players commented: “If you open the scanner it shows you all the buildings and points of interest you are near. Didn’t find that out until like 4 hours in lol.” So it can be a little difficult for players to understand how to guide themselves.

The guide function can pinpoint objectives previously marked on your Quest Menu, and the Scanner can give you lots of information about the environment.

Another player shared a simple trick to pinpoint your exact location when visiting cities: “There is a city directory, in the train stations. They tell you where every location is. Look for the kiosks.”

For the moment, we don’t know if Bethesda will address this lack of map situation in Starfield, but we will keep you posted if they announce something.

In the meantime, you can check a list of all console commands, in case you are stuck, and if you are wondering if you can romance companions in Starfield, here’s all we know about it.
