Starfield players feel Bethesda’s over-reliance on mods is hurting the game
BethesdaStarfield players think Bethesda should stop relying on the modding community to fix the game for them and take some time to fix some issues internally.
Starfield has a dedicated modding community that is churning out countless mods for the game. Many of them can improve the gameplay, add community-requested elements, or even fix some bugs. This has been common practice for other Bethesda games in the past as well, like Skyrim.
However, the Starfield community believes that these are things that Bethesda should be doing by themselves instead of relying on the community. Despite being in development for over a decade, players have been complaining about many aspects of the game feeling “barren.”
Starfield fans believe over-reliance on mods is hurting game
On the Starfield subreddit, ‘Leafygreeeeeens’ wrote that Bethesda should have “spent another year or two refining this game.” The vast majority of players agreed with this, and the post got over 1.4k upvotes. One user added, “it’s nowhere near a complete experience representative of what the game clearly wants to be.”
The OP added that Bethesda is relying on the “free labour” offered by the modding community “to add in a lot of needed features” to Starfield. The game didn’t have too many game-breaking bugs when it launched, so it’s not just the glitches that fans are talking about.
For example, as mentioned by the players, the world in Starfield is set after more than 250 years in space. Despite this, the major cities and planets don’t have a realistic population, or even anywhere near that amount. Facial expressions and NPC schedules are also things that players have been complaining about.
Another issue is that although the game offers countless planets to explore, there are no ground vehicles. This feels “super strange,” especially when compared to other games featuring space exploration, like the Mass Effect series or No Man’s Sky.
Bethesda did promise to continue supporting the game and adding features requested by the community. However, not all players are confident about it, as ‘Tobacco_Bhaji’ wrote: “They’ve talked big in the past many times, then failed to deliver or straight up ripped people off.” The majority of players agreed that Starfield is an enjoyable game, even without mods, but there is still much to be desired.
