Starfield players praise game’s best companion for never judging your atrocities
BethesdaStarfield features many recruitable companions that bring unique abilities to your crew. But players on Reddit feel that this starting companion is the best as he turns a blind eye toward anything the player does.
The Bethesda DNA shines through in Starfield, as the sci-fi RPG packs in all the features associated with the studio’s titles. There are many examples of this, including gameplay mechanics like the character creation system, skill trees, diverse dialogue options, and even the physics behind objects.
Starfield also features recruitable companions which are essentially a hallmark of Bethesda’s RPGs. These NPCs can join your ship’s crew, work on outposts, lend a hand during combat, and more. Players can even choose to romance any of the four main companions, all of whom are members of Constellation while being arguably the most fleshed-out characters in the game.
They have personal arcs, likes and dislikes, and distinct personalities. But despite all this, players on Reddit still feel that Starfield‘s starting companion is the “only one who has a soul.”
A discussion around the topic broke out after a post by user ‘ameliog.’ In it, the OP seemed to imply that the robot companion, Vasco, is nothing more than an obstacle. They stated, “What is Vasco actually good for? Other than blocking landing bays, tight spaces, and lines of sight in fights?”
Unfortunately for them, their question was quickly flipped on its head as users rushed to defend Vasco and even crowned him as the best companion in Starfield.
In support of the adorable robot, one user said “Vasco is the only one who has a soul. He can use your name. My character’s name is Alan White, and he always calls me Captain White. He is the only one who respects the title. So Vasco is the Best.”
Another user offered a very different reason to back up the claim, “He’s very good at not giving a s**t. He dislikes nothing.” The lack of emotion Vasco expresses looked to be a point in his favor, as one player credited him for “murdering humans without judgment.”
Other pros in his column included his willingness to guard your ship, crack chuckle-worthy jokes, and avoid being a “total buzzkill.”
Starfield’s robot companion has clearly left quite an impression on players. It’ll be interesting to see if the devs give him a bigger role to play in the Shattered Space DLC.
