Starfield players reveal key reason you shouldn’t fast travel

Starfield lets players explore an entire galaxy, so it’s no surprise that the game includes a fast travel feature to speed up the journey between planets. However, fans have warned that you could miss out on Starfield’s “best” moments if rely on fast travel too much.

Starfield is Bethesda’s biggest RPG to date, dropping explorers into to sprawling galaxy full of secrets. There are over 1,000 planets to discover, plenty of missions to complete, and even multiple different factions to join.

With so much to see and do, players will often find themselves traveling back and forth between a number of locations. Luckily, Starfield features a fast travel system that lets you teleport between planets and skip the space journey in between.

However, Satrfield players have warned that relying on fast travel too often could actually hurt your experience.

In a Reddit post by a now-deleted user, one player had this advice for those just starting their journey in Starfield: “Don’t use fast travel to teleport from planet to planet.”

They went on to explain that had started by hopping between planets for “convenience,” but later found that going back to the ship and heading back into space manually, before selecting a destination and watching the cutscene, was much better.

“This allows for all the random encounters in space to occur and honestly some of the best stuff I’ve experienced in the game has been because of this shift in play style,” they said. “I know it’s a bit more work but you’re missing out on a lot of encounters if you just teleport everywhere. Take your time and the game will reward you.”

Plenty of other Starfield fans supported this play style, arguing that it adds an extra layer to the game that some players might miss out on.

“I love floating on the planet orbits!” said one reply. “When I discovered that arriving there generates random encounters, and when I discovered that high-traffic planets offer the opportunity to Hail and communicate (even Trade!) with other ships around, it raised the game level for me from good to great.”

Others even shared a handful of their random encounters, explaining that they are some of the most memorable interactions they’ve had so far.

“Yesterday, I encountered a Sysdef ship that wanted me to deliver a package to Atlantis space port. Quick 7.5k credits,” said one reply, before another added: “I met a ship that traveled 200 years to get there. They made grav drives work shortly after these people left Earth and the planet they wanted to settle on had a freaking beach resort on it.”

So, based on these stories, it seems that if you want to experience everything that Starfield has to offer, fans should consider avoiding the fast travel system where possible.
