Battlefield 2042 players have across a new bug that lets them completely negate the effects of enemy smoke grenades, making them completely useless in combat.
Now, players have discovered a bug involving smoke grenades and one of the in-game menus, which lets players turn off the effects of that piece of gear, making it completely useless during fights.
Reddit user Jagsfootball51 highlighted this glitch in the Battlefield 2042 subreddit. “You can completely negate a smoke grenade just by opening the menu and going to [the] Collections [tab],” they stated.
The clip showcased the Redditor looking at some enemies who then threw down a smoke grenade before attempting to revive their teammates. However, the player was able to negate the smoke grenade.
They did this by opening the in-game menu and heading to the Collections tab before returning to the game. The enemy smoke grenades had completely disappeared from their screen after this.
Many of the commenters were surprised by this glitch and expressed their frustration with how this makes grenades completely useless. “This game is so broken,” one user wrote. “This needs an insta-fix.”
At the time of writing, it’s unclear whether or not the developers are aware of this issue. Hopefully, they’ll investigate the bug and implement a fix because this might be game-breaking.

Battlefield 2042 dev apologizes & removes “slap in the face” Portal mode
Battlefield 2042 added a ‘bot farm’ mode to Portal’s featured experiences, and a dev apologized before removing it.
Battlefield 2042 devs added a new zombies mode to Portal, but it quickly became clear that it could be used as an XP farm. Players called it a “slap in the face” and a Battlefield Portal dev has since apologized and the mode has been removed.
Battlefield Portal gives players an incredible amount of tools to create their own modes using assets from previous Battlefield games and 2042. After assuring players that it couldn’t be used to farm XP, the devs almost completely removed Portal XP after the browser was full of XP farms.
The devs made changes to Portal XP in January 20’s Update 3.2, increasing the XP cap for unofficial servers. Then, they released the Zombie Survival mode that acted exactly like an XP farm and quickly removed it following backlash.
Battlefield 2042 players have been desperate for Portal XP to be reenabled after it was removed from custom modes to prevent XP farms. Developers Ripple Effect increased the Portal XP cap in the January 20 update, but it’s still not as much as players would like.
Then, later on January 20, the devs added the Zombie Survival mode which players called an “official bot farm.” In this mode, players would battle waves of AI enemies who would be extremely easy to kill, earning a ton of XP and Mastery rewards in the process.
Twitter user 235Nuke said the Zombie Survival mode is “a slap in the face to gaming communities and others whom [sic] want to run experiences in portal. This zombie mode is an official bot farm which is why XP was restricted in portal.”
This tweet prompted a response from Ripple Effect’s Senior Design Director Justin Wiebe, who apologized.
“I’m not going to lie, this one shouldn’t have gotten through our review process,” said Wiebe. “I think our desire to create a fun zombies mode clouded our ability to see such a simple thing like the impact it would have on progression. I’m very sorry for the hardship this has caused.”
More and more players had the same complaint as 235Nuke and the developers removed the mode on January 21, replacing it with Gun Master 2042.
DICE is committed to getting Battlefield 2042 back on track, revealing that the next major patch will be Update 3.3 in February.

How to fix Battlefield 2042 Error Code 3:9001
Battlefield 2042 players have been unable to launch the game after the Error Code 3:9001 popped up, but we have a simple fix.
Battlefield 2042 devs have released the first update of 2022, but Update 3.2 has caused the frustrating Error Code 3:9001 which prevents Steam players from launching the game. But, we’ve got a simple fix for the issue.
Unfortunately, this has caused the ‘Error Code 3:9001’ to pop up, preventing Steam users from launching the game.
Luckily, there’s a simple fix for the issue, so you can get back to playing Battlefield 2042 in no time.
How to fix Error Code 3:9001 in Battlefield 2042
While Battlefield 2042’s Error Code 3:9001 is frustrating, there’s an easy way to get around it by changing some settings within Steam.
Here’s how to get rid of Battlefield 2042’s 3:9001 Error Code:
- Open your Steam Library
- Right-click on Battlefield 2042
- Select Properties
- Select Updates
- Hit the drop down arrow underneath ‘Automatic Updates‘
- Select ‘Only update this game when I launch it‘
- Launch Battlefield 2042 through Steam
What appears to have gone wrong here was Steam didn’t automatically download the update for players, so the error code has popped up when players tried to launch an out-of-date version of Battlefield 2042.
However, setting the game to only ‘only update when I launch it’ will force the game to recognize and begin installing the update. Then, hopefully, you’ll be able to resume playing Battlefield 2042 as soon as the update’s over.

Battlefield 2042 could go free-to-play after EA “very disappointed” with release
EA are reportedly considering a free-to-play model for Battlefield 2042 after its poor release and low player count.
According to reliable leaker Tom Henderson, EA are reportedly “very disappointed” with Battlefield 2042’s launch and are considering making the game free-to-play in some capacity.
The free-to-play model has been adopted by almost every publisher in the games industry, pulling in as many players as possible and then selling in-game cosmetics to rake in an incredible amount of money.
Many expected Battlefield 2042’s Hazard Zone to be the free-to-play offering, but this wasn’t the case. However, it’s been reported that EA are considering adding a free-to-play element to the game after its disappointing launch.
Battlefield 2042 was one of the most anticipated shooters of 2021 but issues such as poor performance, the disappearance of the classic class system, and the controversial bullet spread mechanic turned away both new and returning players.

Industry insider Tom Henderson reported the news on January 20, claiming that EA are “looking at all options” with Battlefield 2042, which includes looking at free-to-play “in some capacity.”
It remains to be seen what this free-to-play model may look like, but Henderson said that he’ll reveal more information on January 21.
The community wasn’t convinced that going free would help Battlefield 2042, as the issues are rooted in the game itself. “Making it F2P will only give them another 10k players for like 2 weeks and then those players will leave,” said one player. “This game is gonna get ditched.”

If those guys had real leadership they would’ve taken to twitter, reddit, IG, all of these sources for feedback and put it to practice.
This game is gonna get ditched.
“Sadly, I’m happy that they’ve admitted being very disappointed with it,” explained another popular leaker, TheMW2Ghost. “Hopefully that’ll shift the game in the right direction, and adding a **scoreboard** to the game isn’t seen as an incredible act of legacy feature implementation.”
DICE recently unveiled plans to add a proper Scoreboard to Battlefield 2042, and while fans were happy to see it return, they were shocked it was never there in the first place.
