Surprising Warzone 2 LMG is meta contender with “top tier” long-range TTK
LMGs have been weapon choices since Warzone 2 launched, and CoD guru WhosImmortal has revealed the “off-meta” gun in the category that can more than compete with the game’s meta weapons.
Warzone 2 Season 2 Reloaded came with a number of changes to the game’s meta, thanks to the introduction of the Tempus Torrent Marksman Rifle and numerous buffs and nerfs to the existing lineup of weapons.
The LMG category has been incredibly popular in Warzone 2 thanks to their high damage range and huge magazine size, with the likes of the RPK and Sakin MG38 emerging as top options.
However, Warzone expert WhosImmortal feels their one LMG that’s being slept on by the community, despite having a deadly long-range TTK that’s very competitive.
In his March 29 video, the YouTuber explained that the 556 Icarus is an “off-meta” LMG that he believes has what it takes to be players’ “new favorite gun.”
He compared the weapon to other popular choices in the LMG class, such as the RAPP H and RPK, and found that the 556 Icarus is “surprisingly competitive,” especially at long-range. After the 56-meter range, the Icarus was “right there” with the other meta guns, boasting a TTK of around 820 to 860ms.
WhosImmortal argued that once players get used to the way the 556 Icarus handles, it has all the makings of a “top tier” weapon in Warzone 2.
“This is one that can hang with these other top-chosen weapons,” he explained. “After you get used to that recoil pattern, after you get used to how it behaves in-game, its movement speed and its reload [speed], you can really fry with this thing.”
WhosImmortal’s best 556 Icarus in Warzone 2
- Muzzle: Echoless-80
- Barrel: FTAC Coldforge 16″ Barrel
- Optic: Aim OP-V4
- Underbarrel: Edge-47 Grip
- Ammunition: 5.56 High Velocity
WhosImmortal began his 556 Icarus loadout with the Echoless-80 muzzle and FTAC Coldforge 16″ Barrel, to buff the gun’s range and bullet velocity to make it more effective at long-range.
Next up, he went for the Edge-47 Grip for better recoil stability, keeping the Icarus on target during sustained fire. He paid this with the Aim OP-V4 optic, which offers extra zoom for precise shots.
Finally, he added 5.56 High Velocity rounds to ensure every shot is landing exactly where you’re aiming.
The 556 Icarus currently has a pick rate of just 0.4% according to WZ Ranked. However, once word gets out about this setup, don’t be surprised to see it climb the leaderboard in the coming weeks.
