When CD Projekt Red launched The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt way back in 2015, they redefined the open-world genre completely. Players couldn’t get enough of the immersive fantasy world the devs created, teeming with wild monsters and quirky characters.

As announced by CDPR, the next-gen port of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently scheduled for release in Q4 of 2022, over seven years since the original release. This means we should see the upgrade somewhere between October and the end of the year.

It was originally due at the end of 2021, but the devs Tweeted on October 20 saying that the port had been delayed along with the updated version of Cyberpunk 2077. The reasons behind the delay are unknown, only that it came after “recommendations supplied by teams supervising development.”

However, now that Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 and Xbox Series X|S update is out, it appears that CDPR are confident that The Witcher 3 can follow suit.

Details about the updated versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are fairly scarce, but we can expect them to make use of the new console’s blistering load times and ray tracing.

The game already ran at 4K on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, but fans can look forward to touched-up visuals in a game that wowed gamers seven years ago.

From a technical point of view, the additional power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will improve features like draw distances and help it stay locked at 60 FPS.

There have also been rumors they will feature mod support after CDPR supposedly reached out to creators for feedback.
