Activision announced today that there was a major change to the loot system for Call of Duty starting with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: there’s no loot boxes in the game anymore.

Instead, the company is replacing loot boxes with Battle Pass system that features cosmetic items only, so players only have to work towards cosmetic items through the paid items in this game.

As part of this, Treyarch has hinted on Twitter that the new system may be for the future of Call of Duty. In a tweet, the studio stated that it’s a new chapter for Call of Duty “starting with Modern Warfare.”

It’s not clear how this will work with 2020 Call of Duty game, which is set to be developed by Treyarch per rumors.
