Treyarch are set to be the next studio to bring a Call of Duty game following Modern Warfare 2, with all signs pointing towards it arriving in 2024. A well-known leaker has reported that Treyarch have had the budget for a two-year lifecycle approved for CoD 2024.

Modern Warfare 2 finally arrives on October 28, and it’s been widely reported that it will be the first Call of Duty game to have a two-year lifecycle, and there won’t be a new CoD until 2024.

Call of Duty 2024 is expected to be developed by Treyarch, with the concept art that leaked in Warzone Mobile teasing a 1990s setting, with code referring to the Black Hawk Down incident.

Now, leaker TheGhostofHope claims that “Treyarch have had their budgets approved for a 2-year lifecycle on their next installment as part of Activision | Blizzard’s 3-year budget cycle.”

Essentially, Treyarch’s Call of Duty 2024 will receive seasonal content for two years, and there won’t be a new title until 2026.

According to Hope, “Activision are hedging their bets on [Modern Warfare 2] doing well financially as well as the infrastructure of CoD 2.0.”

The Call of Duty 2.0 that the leaker refers to is the new way that Activision are running Call of Duty, where all future CoD games will be on one unified engine — starting with Modern Warfare 2. However, CoD general manager Johanna Fairies said that Treyarch and Infinity Ward games will still feel unique.

Hope followed up on the rumor claiming that Activision won’t make a final decision for another “12-18 months” and what Microsoft chooses to do if their acquisition goes through is still “up in the air.”

While “Treyarch is working off the assumption of 2 years,” things can ultimately change.

This claim further counters the debunked rumor that Sledgehammer Games are developing a Call of Duty game for 2025. But, if they follow the same pattern as Modern Warfare, Cold War, and Vanguard, then it’s entirely possible that Sledgehammer will develop CoD 2026 — we’ll need to wait and see.

Like anything, it’s worth bearing in mind that this is just a rumor for now. Activision still haven’t confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 will get a two-year lifecycle yet, and the leaks that classic maps and campaign DLC will arrive as a paid expansion are also just that.
