In a developer interview, some new information was revealed by Treyarch regarding Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Season 1.
Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War is approaching. In a developer interview hosted by Treyarch, we got lots of behind the scenes looks at updates for Warzone, Zombies, Multiplayer, and Fireteam.
Here’s the rundown.
For Warzone, we’re heading into Rebirth Island. Many players have labeled this as a mere “Alcatraz” remake from Blackout, but they’re wrong.
Instead, Rebirth Island will focus on answering an important part of Black Ops Lore, bringing us to a massive Nova 6 factory (In addition to the prison).
We’ll be able to travel around the island, looting houses and fighting in open fields. At the center of the island lays the Prison Block, where close-quarters combat will be at every corner. Battles will be tense, and action will start fast, so get looted up as fast as possible.
The Rebirth Island Gulag will be unique compared to Verdansk. In this gulag, you’ll be strapped to a chair and will have to break free to enter a tense 1v1 combat arena. Winners get back into the game, while losers are eliminated.
In addition to this, Verdansk will also see it’s Gulag showers replaced with a makeshift version of Nuketown. The backyard areas will be cut off, and the buildings will be closed. All combat will take place in the center of the map, by the vehicles.
For the first time in Call of Duty history, a scorestreak has been added into the game as DLC. We will see the return of the fan-favorite Blackbird/Orbital VSAT, now known as the H.A.R.P. This High-Altitude Reconnaissance Plane will show both enemy position and direction on the mini-map for 6,000 score.
It can be blown down via launcher, however that is the only way to take it out of play.
New Fireteam Dirty Bomb Modes
Fireteam Dirty Bomb will receive 2 new modes in Season 1. The first of which will be a duos version of the Fireteam Dirty Bomb mode. To compensate for the smaller squads, the player count will be reduced to 20 players instead of the standard 40.
Additionally, Fireteam Dirty Bomb will get a new mode called Endurance. In this mode, after a bomb is detonated – another will respawn. There will always be 5 bombs active on the map at once, causing players to constantly fight across the map for control of the bomb sites.
For Zombies, players will get a Holiday themed Die Maschine map revamp. In this mode, the mystery box will not spawn – but Zombies will drop presents with equipment, weapons, and even coal for players. You will also have snowballs at your disposal to freeze zombies, among other surprises (like the cranked game mode).

Cold War players want classic Black Ops 1 map to return
Cold War has featured many different Black Ops II remakes, but fans are eager for a Black Ops I map to appear in Treyarch’s latest CoD game.
Quite a few Black Ops Cold War players have made their feelings known in wanting Treyarch to put aside the Black Ops II love, and remake Black Ops I’s Havana map.
As well as creating new environments such as Yamantau, The Pines, Diesel amongst other maps, Treyarch has also brought back quite a few maps from previous titles. Eagle-eyed players will notice that the maps have all been remakes of Black Ops II maps – with only Nuketown from the first game.
However, Cold War fans would love to see this approach change in a future update by remaking a classic Black Ops I map – Havana.
In our own personal list of maps we wanted to see return in Black Ops Cold War, we singled out Havana as a strong, potential candidate.
It seems that other players have agreed with Reddit user DogeJonkins also laying claim to Cold War needing the map.
“I really want this map to be remade,” they said, with the main menu picture of the map attached to the post.
One user alluded to the fact that Treyarch has concentrated on remaking maps from one game: “If we have to have remakes instead of original content, at least have it not be BO2 (Black Ops II).”
With Season 4’s Reloaded update starting to age, it’s getting close to the point where we can start speculating on potential content for Cold War Season 5. Treyarch will surely have a surprise or two left up their sleeves as we close in on Call of Duty: Vanguard 2021.

How to get 3 free weapon Blueprints in Black Ops Cold War Season 4
Black Ops Cold War offers a few free weapon skins for players to claim in Season 4, and here’s how you can do it.
Unbeknownst to many players, Call of Duty does have several free skins for some of its many guns. Our quick guide will help to acquire them in Black Ops Cold War Season 4.
The CoD store has tons of Operators, Bundles, and various other cosmetics for players to purchase and use to customize their loadouts and characters. There are even additional goodies that are locked behind the Season’s respective Season Pass too.
But every now and again the store does contain a bundle or skin that Cold War players can claim free of charge. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 4 does have some of these right now, and this is how you get can them for yourself.
Unlock free weapons Blueprints in Cold War Season 4
Claiming them isn’t particularly taxing, and you should have no problem owning them very quickly to use.
To unlock these free weapon skins in Cold War Season 4, simply:
- Start Black Ops Cold War
- Go to the main menu
- Head to ‘Create a Class’
- Select each weapon
- Choose the ‘Shop’ option
- Scroll through them until you find the skins marked ‘Free’
They will be added to your library of cosmetics for that weapon, and you can manually apply these skins to the respective guns. They may not be as obviously flashy as the Thrust Engine Blueprint for instance, but skins are a nice change of pace from conventional unlockable camos.
If any more free skins do become available to purchase, then we’ll be sure to update this guide to let you know.
