Bloom, or bullet spread, has been a controversial addition to Call of Duty: Vanguard – stopping bullets from going exactly where you aim. However, Sledgehammer Games nerfed the mechanic in the November 18 update.
Both Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042 have included bloom, or bullet spread, mechanics. While designed to add more variety to weapon classes, players had become frustrated that their shots were not going exactly where they aim.
There are ways to reduce bloom in Vanguard, but many believe it shouldn’t have been added in the first place. DICE have said they’re looking into it, but Vanguard’s devs, Sledgehammer Games, have reacted already – nerfing the mechanic in the November 18 update.
Vanguard weapon bloom nerfed
The patch notes confirm that they have “Reduced the effects of ADS Spread (aka Bloom) on base weapons (without attachments).”
Players can increase and reduce the bloom by using attachments that affect the Accuracy stat, but these changes only affect the base values. However, these changes appear to be significant.
Call of Duty YouTuber TheXclusiveAce broke down the changes, revealing that Assault Rifles have received a significant accuracy buff, with the AS44 and Volkssturmgewehr benefitting the most.
The bloom mechanic does still exist though, and unless you’re using all of the Accuracy-boosting attachments, you might still miss some shots you’d have otherwise hit. But, you’ll find that, overall, the weapons are now much more accurate.
It’s promising to learn that Sledgehammer Games are taking the community’s feedback on board, and there could be even more changes made later as Vanguard rolls on into Season 1 and beyond.
