Vanguard March 25 update patch notes: Improved spawn logic, Spy Plane fix, weapon XP buff

Vanguard players received a new update on March 25 which issued a fix for Spy Plane speed and improved spawn logic.

Vanguard Season 2 Reloaded skin

Following the major Season 2 Reloaded update, Vanguard devs decided to roll out another update to address the broken spawn system and fix the speed of Spy Planes.

Although the Vanguard Season 2 Reloaded update went live on March 22, the devs have wasted no time in providing yet another update that is set to improve the overall quality of the game.

Frustrated Vanguard players have been asking for spawn improvements seemingly since launch. Thankfully, this update is the first step in improving the Vanguard spawn system as the devs released an Experimental Playlist where players will notice better spawn logic.

Vanguard’s Experimental Playlist to improve spawn system

You’ve likely encountered numerous clips of players spawning into enemy bullets on Vanguard’s small maps like Ship Haus, Shipment, and Dome. On March 25 the devs released an Experimental Playlist where they’ve “modified the spawn system to better determine the quality of a given spawn location on the map.”

Players are encouraged to test out the new and improved spawns in this specific playlist as the devs are asking for your feedback. Feel free to share your experiences with the devs as they look to maximize their analysis of Vanguard’s spawn logic.

Spy Plane speed reverted

Spy Plane Killstreak in Vanguard menu

The Season 2 Reloaded update unintentionally reverted a previous issue that made Spy Planes and Counter-Spy Planes impossible to take down. These killstreaks are not meant to travel at lightning-quick speeds that will evade launchers and bullets.

The devs confirm that with this update, Spy Planes and Counter-Spy Planes will now travel at their intended speed, making them susceptible to enemy players.

Vanguard weapon XP buff

This massive change will not show up in the patch notes below but Sledgehammer Games revealed that this update has also increased the weapon XP earn rate.

Vanguard’s slow weapon level progression was one of the most frequent complaints alongside the broken spawn system. The fact that weapon XP has been buffed by a whopping 20% makes this update one of the most impactful we’ve seen in Vanguard to date.

Vanguard March 25 update patch notes

Experimental Playlist

A primary goal of the spawn system in Vanguard is to prevent players from spawning in a position where an enemy player immediately threatens them. We recognize that this system frequently fails to select a quality spawn point on smaller maps based on analytics and player feedback.

In the new Experimental Playlist, we have modified the spawn system to better determine the quality of a given spawn location on the map. With these changes, players should feel that spawns are less random, especially in objective-based modes. In the first iteration of what will be a reoccurring Experimental Playlist, players will experience a moshpit of the following maps and modes.

  • Maps: Shipment, Das Haus, and Dome
  • Modes (Core): Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Hardpoint

The Experimental Playlist is available now! Give it a try and share your feedback with us on in our survey.

The goal of the following changes is to transition some of the Chariot 18″ Rapid Barrel penalties to the .50 BMG Mags. Players should find that the .50 BMG BAR is now more challenging, while the Barrel Attachment is a viable option on a wider variety of loadouts. Note: These changes were implemented on March 22.

  • Chariot 18″ Rapid Barrel (BAR)
    • Decreased recoil while firing.
  • .50 BMG 20/30 Round Mags (BAR)
    • Increased initial recoil while firing.
    • Decreased horizontal recoil.

  • Engineer (Perk 2)
    • Players equipped with the Engineer Perk will no longer have their radar scrambled while an enemy Counter-Spy Plane is active.
      • Note: This change was implemented on March 22.

  • Tactical Insertion
    • Addressed an issue that causes an excessive amount of lights to emit once placed.

  • Spy Plane (4 Kills)
    • Reverted unintentional increase to cruise speed.
  • Counter-Spy Plane (4 Kills)

      • Counter-Spy Plane (4 Kills)
      • Glide Bomb (5 Kills)
      • Bombing Run (7 Kills)
  • Ball Turret Gunner (12 Kills)
    • Increased audio levels while active.
      • Note: This change was implemented on March 22.

  • Arms Race
    • Players can no longer spawn on squadmates who are in a contested base.
    • Lethal and Tactical Equipment is no longer immediately refilled when a Field Upgrade is purchased at a Buy Station.
    • Players will no longer respawn with weapons equipped from the ground.
    • Improved the Victory and Defeat UI at the end of a match.
    • Addressed an exploit that allowed players within the protected area of an owned base to be killed by the Goliath Field Upgrade.

Ranked Play

  • Weapon Blueprints
    • Blueprints can now be equipped in Ranked Play and appear in-game with correct visuals.
    • Restricted attachments are flagged in Create-a-Class and automatically removed if the Blueprint is equipped in-game.
  • UI Improvements
    • Players using a controller can now cycle through player entries in the lobby list before a Ranked Play match starts.
    • Added various UI fixes.

Bizarre Vanguard glitch is making players spontaneously combust

CoD Vanguard players have discovered a strange glitch them causes them to catch on fire completely at random.

Operators around fire in Vanguard

A bizarre new glitch has appeared in Vanguard Season 3 Reloaded, causing players to randomly burst into flames in the middle of a match.

The Vanguard community has seen its fair share of different bugs and glitches that have bizarre effects on their gameplay experience, such as turning players into Spider-man or causing them to punch themselves in the face.

Now, another problem has presented itself following the arrival of the Season 3 Reloaded update, as a strange glitch is causing Vanguard players to spontaneously catch on fire during battles.

Windmill on fire in Vanguard

Reddit user ‘r/Sleepy’ highlighted this glitch in a clip posted in the Vanguard subreddit. It shows the player securing multiple kills while running around the map, only to combust into flames seemingly at random.

The kill cam in the clip showed that there was no explosive around them when they caught on fire, so it was extremely confusing why this happened. The Redditor jokingly asked if they’d been hit by an “invisible Molotov.”

Many of the commenters found this glitch amusing as well, with one user sarcastically writing: “Just a little spontaneous combustion.” Another player added: “Pardon me while I burst into flames.”

These types of glitches tend to pop up whenever the developers implement a major update in Vanguard, and a fix for them often arrives through another update once it becomes a major issue.

It’s unclear what exactly caused this glitch to occur, and it doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue at the time of writing. For that reason, it remains to be seen whether or not Sledgehammer Games will investigate the matter.

Best H4 Blixen loadout for Vanguard Season 3 Reloaded

The H4 Blixen SMG arrived with Vanguard Season 3 Reloaded, so here are the attachments and Perks you need to build the best loadout.

Vanguard H4 Blixen SMG

Vanguard Season 3’s mid-season update is here, bringing the Sphere map and the brand-new H4 Blixen SMG. This new weapon is shaping up to be a powerful choice, so here are attachments and perks to create the best H4 Blixen loadout in Vanguard.

Although Vanguard players have been disappointed with the Season 3 Reloaded update’s lack of content compared to Warzone, it’s brought the new Sphere map, several quality of life changes, and the new H4 Blixen SMG.

This versatile SMG is powerful and accurate when fighting at close-medium range, so here’s how to create the best H4 Blixen loadout, including the attachments, Perks, and Equipment you need to maximize its potential.

Best Vanguard H4 Blixen loadout attachments

best vanguard h4 blixen loadout attachments
  • Muzzle: Recoil Booster
  • Barrel: Bergstrom 17″ F3
  • Optic: Slate Reflector
  • Stock: Karlsson Padded Coz
  • Underbarrel: M1941 Hand Stop
  • Magazine: 9mm 72 Round Mags
  • Ammo Type: Lengthened
  • Rear Grip: Fabric Grip
  • Proficiency: Fleet
  • Kit: Quick

We’re kicking off the best Vanguard H4 Blixen loadout with the Recoil Booster to increase the SMGs fire rate and the Bergstrom 17″ F3 barrel to increase its accuracy and keep it under control.

You can choose whatever optic you prefer, but the Slate Reflector is a solid choice for the H4 Blixen. Next, the Karlsson Padded Coz stock and m1941 Hand Stop will make the Blixen even more accurate, allowing it to be much more versatile.

Combining the 9mm 72 Round Mags and Lengthened ammo will give you enough bullets to take down several enemies, and Lengthened’s faster bullet velocity will lower its time to kill.

These attachments weigh down the H4 Blixen, so using the Fabric Grip, Fleet Proficiency, and Quick Kit will make you extremely mobile.

Best Vanguard H4 Blixen Perks & Equipment

Forward Intel Perk in CoD Vanguard
  • Perk 1: Fortified
  • Perk 2: Forward Intel
  • Perk 3: Lightweight
  • Lethal Equipment: Mk2 Frag Grenade
  • Tactical Equipment: No69 Stun Grenade

The H4 Blixen is a speedy SMG so you’ll need the best Perks and Equipment to complement it. The Fortified Perk will reduce explosive and fire damage, allowing you to charge at the enemies and tank grenades.

Forward Intel will tell you exactly where the enemies are spawning so you can easily control the map, and Lightweight will allow you to get around the map much faster.

A perfectly cooked Frag Grenade is a powerful tool, and the Stun Grenade will slow enemies down allowing you to easily get the kill.

How to unlock H4 Blixen in Vanguard

H4 Blixen SMG in CoD Vanguard

Vanguard’s new H4 Blixen SMG can be unlocked by getting 3 Slide Kills in a single match 15 times.

This shouldn’t be too difficult to unlock, just hop into a small map with a hip-fire build and you’ll get the slide kills in no time at all.

Best alternatives to H4 Blixen in Vanguard

There are plenty of other powerful SMGs you can use in Call of Duty: Vanguard, with the MP40 and Tommy Gun being two of the best.

Data miners have discovered in-game files added to Vanguard with the Season 3 Reloaded update that provides information concerning Modern Warfare 2 editions and the open beta.

On May 24 the Season 3 Reloaded update for Vanguard went live, and while new content like the H4 Blixen and Sphere map is exciting, there was yet another surprise hidden in the update.

It turns out data miners have leaked in-game Vanguard files that provide information concerning Modern Warfare 2 editions. These files have shed light on what each edition could bring to the table, as well as which platform will get early access to the MW2 Open beta later this year.

Price in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

While this information has not been confirmed by Activision, the following info concerning Modern Warfare 2 pre-order content was found in Vanguard’s in-game files:

Standard Edition content

  • Modern Warfare 2
  • Early access to open beta
  • Other items to be announced

Cross-Gen Bundle content

  • Cross-Gen version of Modern Warfare 2
  • Early access to open beta – first on PS4 & PS5
  • Other items to be announced

Vault Edition content

  • Early access to open beta
  • Battle Pass (1 Season) + 50 Tier Skips
  • Red Team Operator Pack – Ghost, Soap, Price, Farah Operators
  • FJX Cinder Weapon Vault
  • 10 hours 2XP, + 10 hours 2WXP
  • Ghost Legacy Pack – 12 Operator Skins & 10 Weapon Blueprints

It seems all three pre-order editions grant players early access to the open beta, and we’ll keep you posted once we know when pre-orders commence and when the beta will occur. The cross-gen bundle also confirms that MW2 will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Another key piece of information revealed by this leak is that PS4 and PS5 players will receive access to the open beta first. We already know that PlayStation exclusivity will not last forever, once the Microsoft deal to acquire Activision officially goes through, but at the moment it is good news for PlayStation players.

You’ll have to discern which edition is right for you, but there’s no denying that the Vault Edition comes with a ton of interesting Operator and weapon cosmetics. In addition, the 50 Battle Pass Tier Skips and double weapon XP will be valuable as you attempt to level up early on.
