Vanguard players’ delight with new Season 3 map quickly turns to frustration
Vanguard Season 3’s new Mayhem map was received with open arms as the small map’s chaos pleased players. However, an unfortunate change has led to widespread frustration.
Vanguard Season 3 acted as a much-needed content refresh for players who have been enjoying CoD multiplayer. From interesting new Godzilla and Kong Operator skins to the highly requested Trophy System, players had a lot to sink their teeth into.
Another new aspect of Vanguard Season 3 was the brand-new map called Mayhem. The small map was praised for its constant action and excitement but it seems the low probability of actually playing a match on the map has players extremely frustrated.
The map is modeled after a film studio like the one used to shoot the original 1954 Godzilla film. Given the Godzilla vs King Kong theme of the new season, the map makes thematic sense.
It didn’t take long for players to praise the map as comments under a post on the Vanguard subreddit are full of positivity, “as much as I’m one of those realism goobers I do love weird map designs like this.”
Players did admit that the design was disorienting at first but very interesting once you get accustomed to it, “I was quite disoriented when I first played the map, though I’ve got to say, once I figured out what was going on, I was delighted.”
Unfortunately, only a few days later, another post highlights the recent frustration that players are feeling as they cannot seem to find a match on the map. Vanguard has long since had map rotation issues, but players claim that it feels like the map is not even in the game.
“What new map?” one player sarcastically exclaims. However, another player points out that the reason it isn’t in the regular map rotation is that it can be found exclusively in a limited-time playlist.
Although this seems like a valid explanation, some players are still frustrated that they cannot enjoy the map with their gameplay preferences, “I prefer FFA and have no desire to play in that 24/7 sweatfest. There’s zero reason a brand-new map shouldn’t be in regular playlists.”
Whether the map will eventually begin to appear on a frequent basis remains to be seen but given the positive reception, it would be a win-win for the players and devs.
