Rumors of an Escape From Tarkov-esque DMZ mode have circulated for months, and now Warzone 2’s ESRB rating has provided the first official mention of DMZ for Modern Warfare 2.

For months, rumors have claimed that Infinity Ward’s upcoming Modern Warfare 2 would include a DMZ mode, with gameplay inspired by another popular FPS, Escape From Tarkov.

Despite all these leaks, Infinity Ward have still yet to officially confirm that the mode will arrive with MW2 when it launches in October, leaving players still wondering if it will release alongside the game.

With MW2 and Warzone 2’s launch just months away, the games have been sent for rating by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. Hidden inside the confirmation summary, eagle-eyed CoD fans have spotted the first official mention of DMZ.

In the official rating summary, ESRB state that Warzone 2.0 is a “first-person shooter, set in the Call of Duty universe, in which players engage in a variety of multiplayer combat events.”

While this section isn’t particularly interesting, ESRB then lists off these events, specifically mentioning battle royale, plunder-style skirmishes, and DMZ.

This is the first time we’ve seen DMZ officially mentioned in something related to Warzone 2.0 or Modern Warfare 2, and is the biggest confirmation yet that we’ll be seeing it this year.

Interestingly, DMZ is mentioned alongside Warzone 2.0 and not Modern Warfare 2, which leads many to wonder if it will release alongside the battle royale rather than the full game.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for Activision and Infinity Ward to answer that question for us, but thankfully, Call of Duty: Next is just around the corner, and may provide new information about the DMZ mode.
