Warzone dev promises to change Verdansk ’84 sun glare

After Warzone players complained that Verdansk ’84’s sun glare was blindingly bright, Raven Software’s lead VFX artist promised change.

Warzone Season 3’s Verdansk ’84 brought much-needed change to the battleground, freshening up POIs and adding new areas to explore. The map was originally plagued by under the map exploits, but Raven Software appears to now have these under control.

Since the game-breaking issues have been fixed, Warzone players have turned their eyes to the map’s other glaring issues. Most notable is the blinding sun lens flare that comes over the top of hills and buildings, making it impossible to see anything else. Fans have been asking for change, and a Raven Software dev has promised to address the issue.

One of the main complaints about the original Verdansk was its muted color palette. It was exceptionally easy for Operators wearing dark colors to blend into corners, and many PC players used NVIDIA filters to brighten the map. With Verdansk ’84, however, the sun came out and brought more vivid colors to the area.

In turn, this brought further visibility issues. Players complained that the lens flare covers up your whole screen when facing the sun, making it impossible to see anything else in front of you. Dexerto compiled these complaints, and it caught the attention of Warzone’s lead VFX artist, Reed Shingledecker.

“Is this true? The sun lensflare in Verdansk ’84 is bothering people?” asked Shingledecker on May 23. “I can easily tone it down if needed.”

Players and high-profile members of the Warzone community responded with a resounding yes, so Shingledecker confirmed he would be addressing the issue. “Looks like I know what I’m doing on Monday. I’m happy to look and address any VFX concerns.”

However, he confirmed that he doesn’t “have the power to change the entire lighting of the map,” and concerns over this should be sent to Raven Software’s Twitter account.

This is likely in response to players’ love for Rebirth Island’s new lighting, and asking for it to be implemented in Verdansk ’84.

Shingledecker felt he had to reiterate what he can actually change, so further clarified. “There seems to be some confusion as to what is in my control to adjust,” he explained. “I can only adjust the brightness of the lens flare on the screen. This includes the rays that draw on top of buildings and the screen dirt. I CANNOT control the haziness, god rays, or actual sun brightness.”

Although Shingledecker said he would be looking at the issue on Monday (May 24), the change will likely be applied in a future update.

Call of Duty: Warzone offers players a plethora of controller settings to fine-tune, such as Aim Assist and movement. We’ve put together a guide to help you find the best settings to use following the Season 5 Reloaded update.

We’re now past the Season 5 Reloaded update, and Warzone continues to bring significant balance changes, new modes, and now The Numbers midseason event. Plus, the new Iron Trials mode has arrived, offering Warzone’s best an exclusive Calling Card for winning “the toughest Battle Royale mode to ever come to Verdansk.”

Aim and movement have are important as ever, so you need to best settings to dominate Verdansk and Rebirth Island. Whether you play with a controller on PC or consoles, here are the best controller settings to improve your accuracy and movement in Warzone Season 5.

Best Warzone controller settings

  • BR Button Layout: Tactical flipped
  • Stick Layout Preset: Default
  • Invert Vertical Look: Disabled
  • Deadzone: 0 (then increase as required)
  • Horizontal Stick Sensitivity: 8
  • Vertical Stick Sensitivity: 8
  • ADS Sensitivity Multiplier (Low Zoom): 0.75
  • ADS Sensitivity Multiplier (High Zoom): 0.85
  • Aim Response Curve Type: Standard/Dynamic
  • Controller Vibration: Disabled

For your button layout, Tactical is the best choice. When playing Warzone, you’ll constantly be crouching, slide canceling, and going prone. Tactical maps your crouch/slide button to the thumbstick, so you don’t need to move your thumb and can be as quick as possible.

You also want Deadzone to be as low as possible for maximum response time while aiming. Start with your Deadzone set to 0 and keep increasing it until you no longer have any stick drift. This depends entirely on how old your controller is.

Tap to use is a godsend. Your game will prioritize whether you reload or interact based on your situation. You’ll be able to instantly open crates and reload, making it a vital setting to enable.

Movement

  • Slide Behavior: Hold
  • Auto Move Forward: Disabled
  • Automatic Sprint: Auto Tactical Sprint
  • Vehicle Camera Recenter: Enabled
  • Parachute Auto-Deploy: Disabled

When using Parachute Auto-Deploy, you want to get comfortable with having it Disabled. You’ll be able to pull your chute lower to the ground, meaning you can reach the ground as fast as possible. It can be daunting knowing there’s no safeguard, but pulling your chute close to the ground is extremely worthwhile.

Best Warzone Aim Response Curve

Warzone has separate Aim Response Curves so you can fine-tune your aim to something you’re comfortable with. Their titles can be confusing, so we’ll break down exactly what they mean and what’s best for you.

  • Standard: Standard curve from aim stick to aim rate. When you initially aim, there will be a slight delay in speed when the stick is pressed all the way in a specific direction.
  • Linear: Removes initial speed delay when the stick is pressed all the way in a direction. More for aggressive, fast movements at the cost of precision.
  • Dynamic: Hybrid system between linear and standard. Your aim will speed up slightly when initially moving the stick.

The majority of players use Standard. Whether you’re new to Call of Duty or a returning player, this will feel the most natural to you.

If you’re confident in your aim and can transition between targets quickly, we’d recommend using Dynamic. Many of the top players use this response curve because of the fine aim rate control it provides.

Best Warzone Aim Assist Type

Warzone offers four Aim Assist types, so you can find what comes most naturally to you. We would never recommend turning Aim Assist off, but here’s a breakdown of the options available to controller players.

  • Disabled: You will have no Aim Assist.
  • Standard: Traditional aim slowdown near the target. A wider area where your aim will slow around an opponent. Best for regular Call of Duty players who want some extra time to lock on the target.
  • Precision: Strong aim assist slowdown that only kicks in when close to an enemy player. Only use this option if you’re a skilled and accurate player. The slowdown area is minimal and casual players will not like this.
  • Focusing: Strong aim slowdown that kicks in when narrowly missing targets. If you’re new to Call of Duty, this is your best bet to improve on a controller.

The majority of players should use Standard Aim assist. It provides the perfect aim slowdown near targets while still allowing for precise adjustments if you need to make them.

If you’re new to FPS games and aren’t used to aiming with a controller yet, you should use Focusing until you feel the Aim Assist is stronger than you need, then use Standard.

Best Aim Assist for Sniping in Warzone

Some of the Warzone community believe that to be an accurate sniper, you need to play on a mouse and keyboard. This isn’t true, as with the right settings, you can be downing players from miles away and quickscoping with precision up-close.

For your Aim Response Curve, you should use Dynamic. You’ll be able to have finer control over how fast your crosshair is moving, allowing for easier flick shots and tracking far-off players.

For your Aim Assist Type, it’s the same situation as any other weapon. If you’re a confident player and need to make micro-adjustments to hit sniper headshots, you should use Precision. And if you’re comfortable with your aim and don’t have an issue sniping with Aim Assist, Standard will be the perfect choice.

Does FOV affect Aim Assist?

Warzone PC players have the option to adjust the game’s field of view. Console players don’t have this option yet, but it will be coming to Vanguard, and will hopefully arrive in Warzone with Vanguard’s extensive integration.

Best Warzone Controller Settings

Increasing your FOV allows you to see much more of what’s in front of you. Console’s FOV is set to around 80 by default, while PC players can crank that value all the way up to 120. This gives PC players a major advantage in seeing more players off to the side of their screen.

Using such as high FOV will stretch and shrink everything in front of you, which can throw off your Aim Assist.

Activision has added a setting to combat this, which is well worth using if you play Warzone with a high FOV on a controller. It would be best if you had Scale Aim Assist with FOV set to Enabled, as this will keep your Aim Assist consistent, no matter your field of view.

How to find best Warzone controller settings

Although we’ve provided the optimal controller settings you should try, there’s no setting that works perfectly for everyone. It’s tempting to find your favorite pro player or content creator and copy their settings, but they might not be the best for you.

We’d recommend jumping into a Custom Game of Modern Warfare and testing out some different controller settings. If you don’t own MW, then Plunder or any other respawn game mode will work well.

To maximize your time while testing out the settings, here’s what we’d recommend:

  • Map: Shoot House
  • Mode: Free-for-All
  • Rules:
    • Time limit: Unlimited
    • Score limit: Unlimited
  • Bots and players:
    • Number of bots: 6
    • Bot difficulty: Recruit

With these custom game settings, you’ll be able to practice shooting for as long as you like. Shoothouse is small enough that you’ll be able to fight constantly, and the Recruit level bots will hardly shoot back at you.

While you’re in this private mode, you should also try getting your Minimum Input Thresholds as low as they’ll go. Start at 0, and move it up one until you no longer receive stick drift.

In FaZe Swagg’s latest video, he reveals a new Kilo 141 loadout that absolutely shreds in Warzone Season 5 Reloaded.

Warzone Season 5 Reloaded brought various changes to the game, including new modes like Clash and the very popular Iron Trials ’84.

The buffs and nerfs introduced in the update shifted the meta, and with players trying to find a new great AR loadout to replace the Krig 6, FaZe Swagg might have the Kilo 141 loadout you’ve been looking to make your primary loadout choice.

Popular Warzone content creator FaZe Swagg is back at it in Verdansk ’84 with what he is claiming is his “most impressive gameplay to date.”

FaZe Swagg took a new Kilo 141 loadout into a solo squads game, taking out 41 enemies with ease due to the Kilo’s easy-to-control recoil. Due to the Kilo’s effectiveness from range due to its lack of recoil, FaZe Swagg has coined this loadout as the “aimbot Kilo.”

  • Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
  • Barrel: Singuard Arms
  • Underbarrel: Commando Foregrip
  • Magazine: 60 Round Mags
  • Optic: VLK 3.0

The Commando Foregrip and VLK 3.0 optic are vital in this loadout as they allow FaZe Swagg to get his “aimbot” accuracy with the weapon.

Further, the Singuard Arms barrel and Monolithic Suppressor helps with damage range, bullet velocity, and stealth by keeping him off the map while firing.

The 60 Round Mags finish the loadout off nicely. This allows players to sustain fire to put down multiple enemies at a time, which is especially important if you’re also going solo in squads.

The YouTuber also combined this Kilo with a Bullfrog to take enemies out from close range. The Kilo isn’t the best weapon for close-quarters engagements, so it’s best to take a weapon with a high close-range TTK to compliment the loadout.

The three perks FaZe Swagg was using with this class are also crucial to success:

  • Perk 1: Double Time
  • Perk 2: Overkill
  • Perk 3: Amped

Overkill allows FaZe Swagg to take the Bullfrog for close-range engagements, while Double Time keeps his movement fast and fluid.

Lastly, Amped is necessary for switching weapons fast, allowing players to quickly pull out the Bullfrog or Kilo when enemies present themselves at their respective ranges.

Following Warzone’s Season 5 Reloaded update, devs introduced Iron Trials ’84. In this mode, players can earn bragging rights by winning “the toughest Battle Royale mode to ever come to Verdansk.”

Warzone Season 5 Reloaded has officially arrived, bringing with it significant weapon balance changes, the now-released Numbers event, and new game modes.

One of these new modes is Iron Trials ’84, which is a more hardcore Verdansk experience where players can earn an exclusive Calling Card. In Iron Trials, you must “flex your mastery over the entire arsenal of weapons” and “prove you can handle any firefight with any type of armament.”

Warzone’s Iron Trials ’84 launched on September 16 with roaring success. It arrived in the weekly Playlist updates, and Raven Software has now confirmed that “Iron Trials ’84 Duos will remain live through the 30th.”

There’s no confirmation of whether Iron Trials will switch to another game mode or will end completely. We’ll be sure to keep you updated when September 30 rolls around, or if Raven provides another update.

In many ways, Iron Trials is a more competitive version of Warzone. The Gulag is more skill-reliant, loadout drops are rarer and more difficult to acquire, and the time-to-kill (TTK) has been raised across the board.

Thanks to the Call of Duty Blog and the Season 5 Reloaded patch notes, here’s every new rule in Warzone’s Iron Trials ’84:

Operator and time-to-kill changes

  • Base Health: Compared to a normal match, all players base health is increased from 100 to 250.
  • Health Regeneration: The regen delay timer has been increased from 5 to 7 seconds and regen per second has been decreased from 120 per second to 40. It may be wise for players to reconsider preferred Perks and Equipment.
  • Starting Equipment: Players drop in with a .44 Magnum and a Sledgehammer.

Devs have previously made it their mission to increase Warzone’s TTK, saying that it increases “the overall capacity for skill expression” and enables “more escapes from impossible situations, moments of finesse, epic outplays, and opportunities to flex exquisite marksmanship.”

They said that Iron Trials 84’s health change is “set to affect the feel of combat, time-to-kill, weapon, Perk, and Equipment viability as the entire game is effectively altered!”

No free Loadout Drops

Even if you Gulag’d early and are scrambling to find cash and more weapons, you can always be safe in the knowledge that a free Loadout Drop will arrive at the start of the second and fifth circles.

But not in Iron Trials ’84, where Complimentary Loadout Drops have been disabled. Staying alive and finding cash has never been more important, especially when “the cost at a Buy Station has risen, too.”

Players will have to collect and spend $15,000 instead of the standard $10,000 to purchase a loadout drop in this game mode.

Tougher Gulag

In Iron Trials ’84, devs have revealed that the Gulag is still open, but will emphasize one-on-one skill. They also said that “the only thing standing between you and redeployment is the agility of your trigger finger.”

Players have previously called for dual weapons and Tactical Equipment to be removed from the Gulag, and Raven is delivering in the Iron Trials ’84 Gulag.

  • No akimbo
  • No semi-auto or fully-auto Shotguns
  • Almost no Tactical Equipment

Also, if you win your one-on-one, you’ll now redeploy with whatever weapons and equipment you had in the Gulag.

No Stopping Power or Dead Silence

Players have long complained about the luck-based advantage that the powerful Field Upgrades Stopping Power and Dead Silence brings.

Raven Software has previously reduced Stopping Power spawn rates and allowed High Alert to counter Dead Silence, but Iron Trials removes both.

Sniper Rifle, Stun Grenade, and Medical Syringe nerfs

Sniper Rifles are some of Warzone’s most powerful tools, allowing you to take out targets at extremely long range without getting your hands dirty. However, Iron Trials ’84 has made it so Sniper Rifles “Can only one-shot to the head within 30 meters.”

This will likely promote more aggressive playstyles for snipers, where they must close the gap to land that ever-important one-shot kill.

In addition, Stun Grenades and Medical Syringes will also see their effectiveness decreased by a whopping 50%, making them not nearly as strong as they are in regular game modes.

Fewer vehicles

A common strategy for surviving Verdansk is to move around in the safety of Big Bertha Trucks, SUVs, and Helicopters. You won’t be able to do this in Iron Trials, though, as the only vehicles on the map will be ATVs and Dirt Bikes.

You won’t be able to run over your opponents with such ease, and you won’t be able to use the vehicles for cover. Raven recommends you “Plan your drops carefully and rotate early.”

Loot changes

You can find all of the game-changing loot changes that are in effect in the Warzone Iron Trials ’84 game mode below:

  • Basic Attachments: Common weapons will start with an attachment – most to provide their max magazine size.
  • Rarity Spawn Rates: Epic and Legendary weapons are now harder to find. Players will have to open a few more boxes than usual to find what they’re looking for.
  • New Rarity – Classified: These Black Ops Cold War weapons will spawn with a few more attachments than usual – more than the standard five. That said, good luck finding one.
  • Killstreaks: Drop rates have been reduced. Time to stop spamming UAVs and to start putting those senses to the test.
  • Cash Spawns: Larger piles of cash are rarer. Players will have to stay on top of scavenging for cash if they plan to afford a Loadout.
  • Field Upgrades: No Dead Silence. No Stopping Power Rounds. Period.

  • Armor Bundle: $1,500 to $2,000
  • Gas Mask: $3,000 to $4,000
  • Cluster Strike: $3,000 to $4,000
  • Precision Strike: $3,500 to $4,500

  • UAV: $4,000 to $6,000
  • Loadout Drop Marker: $10,000 to $15,000

For winning a game of Iron Trials ’84, players can get their hands on an exclusive Calling Card.

Devs said that “there’s no participation trophy for this mode,” and only those who win Iron Trials will receive the Calling Card.

Will Iron Trials come to Warzone Custom Lobbies?

Iron Trials has been incredibly popular since its arrival, with many players calling for it to be a permanent ranked mode. There’s no confirmation that a ranked mode will ever arrive in Warzone, but the competitive scene should be receiving the new rules in the future.

Along with the confirmation that Iron Trials would be around until at least September 30, Raven Software told YouTuber JGOD that “As for customs… it’s not coming tomorrow is all we can say for now.”

So, it sounds very likely that Iron Trials rules will make their way to Custom Lobbies and competitive Warzone, but there’s no confirmation on when. However, we’ll let you know as soon as it’s confirmed.
