In the most recent set of patch notes for Call of Duty: Warzone, Raven Software explained that they would be taking a look at struggling Modern Warfare weapons in the battle royale with an intention to buff them.

A large portion of Warzone’s life was only filled with weapons from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but this changed with the release and integration of Black Ops Cold War into the battle royale game.

This integration saw weapons from Black Ops Cold War dominate the meta and leave the vast majority of Modern Warfare weapons in the dust.

The most recent patch notes that Warzone developers Raven Software released on May 7, 2021, gave fans of the Modern Warfare weapons hope for the future.

In the May 7th, 2021 patch notes, Raven Software gave a detailed explanation of the latest round of changes that the studio made to Warzone that included a great deal of weapon balancing and changes to floor loot, which had been a major topic of discussion amongst players in Season 3.

One of the most interesting things that caught the community’s eyes in the patch notes for Warzone was near the end when Raven Software addressed concerns that they would only be making changes to Black Ops Cold War weapons and provided a tease of a Warzone Modern Warfare weapons buff.

“Finally, we would like to address concerns that we are only going to be making changes to Cold War weapons. In the future, we fully intend on taking a closer look at some of the Modern Warfare weapons that have been struggling,” said Raven Software.

The nerf of the CR-56 AMAX in the May 7 patch notes for Warzone is one of the first major changes that have been applied to Modern Warfare weapons since the integration of Black Ops Cold War into the Call of Duty battle royale.

With Call of Duty 2021 and future games planned to integrate into Warzone as the central hub of the franchise from now on, there have been concerns that fan-favorite weapons from past games would be forgotten and never touched by the developers in the future.

Raven Software has now made it clear that they do not intend to do this for the Modern Warfare weapons for at least the rest of the Black Ops Cold War cycle in Warzone.
