As part of the Season 2 Reloaded update for Call of Duty: Warzone, Activision is making changes to reduce the overall size of the game.
In a new blog post detailing Season 2 Reloaded, the company has shared an update on how they plan to reduce Warzone & Modern Warfare file size on consoles & PC.
In order to get the file size down, the Season 2 Reloaded update, which will go live March 30 at 11PM PT, will be a larger than usual download to optimize and change up the files to compress and better manage them.
Enhancements to the overall content management system has been made possible through data optimization and streamlining content packs needed for individual game modes. This will come after a larger than usual, one-time update for Season Two Reloaded, which will include these optimizations and is necessary in order to reduce the overall footprint; future patch sizes for Modern Warfare and Warzone are expected to be smaller than the one set to release on March 30 at 11PM PST.
Along with the ability to remove individual modes that are no longer played, owners of the full Modern Warfare experience will see more space freed on their platform of choice. However, those who want to continue playing Campaign, Multiplayer, and/or Special Ops will need to reinstall the optimized Content Packs, which will be released alongside and shortly after the Season Two Reloaded update.
The following is the approximate reduction that will be seen for both the free-to-play Warzone and full Modern Warzone/Warzone files on each platform:
- PlayStation 5: 10.9 GB (Warzone Only) / 30.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare®)
- PlayStation 4: 10.9 GB (Warzone Only) / 30.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare®)
- Xbox Series X / Xbox Series S: 14.2 GB (Warzone Only) / 33.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare®)
- Xbox One: 14.2 GB (Warzone Only) / 33.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare®)
- PC: 11.8 GB (Warzone Only) / 30.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare®)
Mid Season 2 Update File Size
Warzone Update Sizes
- PlayStation 5: 52.0 GB
- PlayStation 4: 52.0 GB
- Xbox Series X / Xbox Series S: 57.8 GB
- Xbox One: 57.8 GB
- PC: 52.4 GB (Warzone Only) / 133.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare®)

Modern Warfare players slam state of “unplayable” game on PS5
Modern Warfare players have hit out at the condition of the game on PS5, after visual issues have left the game “unplayable.”
Modern Warfare players have hit out at the current condition of the game on PS5, after visual issues and glitches have left the 2019 CoD title “unplayable.”
Despite being nearly three years old, 2019’s Modern Warfare has still retained a healthy player count. With Vanguard failing to make a big impact with the community, those looking for an alternative to Warzone have flocked back to Infinity Ward’s last release.
However, since Modern Warfare is no longer the main focus of the devs, who are gearing up for Modern Warfare 2 later in 2022, fans have been growing frustrated with the condition the game is in.
A number of bugs and glitches have cropped up, and the game appears to be completely broken on PlayStation 5.
Reddit user BchLasagna uploaded a clip on August 7 simply titled: “The state of Modern Warfare on PS5.” It showed the beginning of a Ground War match on Krovnik Farmland, but the map was unrecognizable due to severe visual issues.
Textures on many of the map’s key features had failed to load in, leaving the game looking like a mess. The ground had no grass or detail on it, while trees were replaced with floating blobs of green and brown.
The Redditor added that it “stayed like this the entire game,” ruining the match for everyone in the lobby.
Other players on PS5 have reported similar issues, while some claimed it was actually affecting gameplay. “It’s not even just a visual issue, you sink into the ground and can’t see anything. Makes it unplayable basically,” said Ram5673.
Meanwhile, many replies called out the devs for allowing Modern Warfare to reach this state, especially since the game worked fine when it was the current CoD release. “This game has been crapped all over by the devs. It comes very low on their priorities,” replied Zimifrein.
It’s no surprise that with Modern Warfare 2 set to drop very soon, Infinity Ward’s focus is mostly on the sequel. However, the players that still enjoy Modern Warfare regularly will be hoping to see the problems on PS5 solved sooner rather than later.

How to fix frustrating Modern Warfare textures not loading glitch
Here’s a simple trick that you can use to fix the Modern Warfare glitch that prevents the game’s textures from loading.
Modern Warfare players are frustrated with a strange glitch that prevents textures from loading, but luckily there’s a way for you to get around this problem.
One issue that’s plaguing Modern Warfare players is a glitch that causes the game’s textures to not load properly. While this can be frustrating, there’s a simple trick that will let you fix the problem.
How to fix Modern Warfare textures not loading glitch
Reddit user ‘swoelie’ shared a screengrab in the Modern Warfare subreddit, and the image showed that the textures on the map’s ground didn’t properly load in. This problem is commonly faced by PS5 users.
One of the commenters then shared a solution to this problem, and it involves the On-demand Texture Streaming feature that allows you to stream higher resolution textures when playing Modern Warfare.
Here’s how you can fix the textures not loading glitch:
- Open Settings in Modern Warfare
- Go to the General tab
- Select Details & Textures
- Enable On-demand Texture Streaming
- Start a match
- Quit the game
- Disable On-demand Texture Streaming
The user made it clear that it doesn’t matter if your on-demand textures are already on or off, just follow these steps and your textures will load properly on your PS5 when you hop back into a match.
In the replies, other commenters reported that this method has been successful for them, and it’s one you should try out until the developers implement an official fix. However, if you turn off the game then you’ll have to do this again.

Classic Modern Warfare modes removed after Warzone update and players are furious
Modern Warfare players are furious after fan-favorite modes were removed following Warzone’s Season 4 Reloaded update.
The Warzone Pacific Season 4 Reloaded update went live on July 27 and it’s had a knock-on effect with Modern Warfare. Fan-favorite game modes have disappeared and players are furious.
Modern Warfare and Warzone are intrinsically linked, with both games sharing one application. While Modern Warfare isn’t receiving any more content updates, Warzone is still going strong with the Season 4 Reloaded update going live on July 27.
Changes in Warzone often have a knock-on effect with Modern Warfare, with the major health increase being brought over on two separate occasions, and the Pacific Season 1 update reportedly breaking the game.
Now, after the Warzone Pacific Season 4 Reloaded update, Modern Warfare players have reported that the Domination and Ground War game modes have disappeared entirely.
Reddit user LuizMW_ took to the Modern Warfare subreddit to let the community know that modes no longer appear on the main menu or quickplay filter, and players are furious.
“Good God how do they keep f**king up an almost 3 year old game they barely support,” asked SilentReavus in response to another post about the issue.
While several players mourned Ground War’s removal, players were especially shocked to see Domination was gone.
“Ground war doesn’t bother me. Taking away domination really makes me incredibly mad. I love playing domination,” commented one player. “Call of Duty is not call of duty without Domination, WTF,” continued another.
It appears Domination and Ground War games were causing crashes and other issues, with user slimcargos reporting that every time they tried to get into a Domination game “it would load the map and freeze.”
“I joined a Ground War match before the removal and a lot of people were leaving the game or getting kicked for inactivity,” chimed in the OP. They explained that later, there was a playlist update and the two modes were gone.
It sounds like the modes have been removed to fix the issues that arrived shortly after Season 4 Reloaded so they should be on their way back to the game soon.
For more on Modern Warfare in the meantime, you can check out the leaks that a classic MW villain will be the Modern Warfare 2 pre-order bonus and that the campaign will have an early access period.
