Major Warzone Gallo nerf goes live in September 23 update
Warzone Season 5 Reloaded received a new update on September 23, which applied a nerf to the Gallo shotgun, a weapon players had been using a lot this season due to its strength up-close.
Warzone has enjoyed a lot of success recently, primarily due to the new Iron Trials mode, which players have enjoyed thoroughly, especially as the devs have teased its arrival in custom lobbies for the future.
The Season 5 Reloaded update saw the weapon meta shift again, bringing the Kilo back to the top of the ARs while the Gallo remained very strong for close-quarters combat.
Unfortunately for those who had been enjoying the meta dominated by this Black Ops Cold War Shotgun, the latest update has brought a Warzone Gallo nerf.
In the latest September 23 update, Raven Software decided to tweak the Iron Trials mode slightly and bring some buffs and nerfs to various weapons.
The weapons affected include the Bullfrog and the Gallo, which have been extremely strong this season. Let’s look at the Warzone Gallo nerf and how they have decided to change the weapon.
Warzone Gallo nerf
- Maximum Damage Range decreased from 4.5 to 3.5 meters
- Second Damage Range decreased from 8.1 to 5.5 meters
- Third Damage Range decreased from 13.2 to 9.9 meters
In the developer notes for why they decided to push the Warzone Gallo nerf live, they stated that:
“The Shotgun Bravo (BOCW) has been incredibly dominant due to its Effective Damage Range, Magazine Capacity, Mobility, and Rate of Fire. By reducing its Effective Damage Ranges, the Shotgun Bravo (BOCW) will begin to feel more like a Shotgun and less like a Sniper.”

The Warzone Gallo nerf does seem pretty significant and targets the weapons’ damage range like the developer note states. The weapon will likely still be very powerful up-close, but it won’t be as versatile or reliable as an SMG.
We’ll have to see how far the Warzone Gallo nerf reduced the effectiveness of the Cold War Shotgun as players get to try it out now the update has gone live. For more Call of Duty: Warzone, check out how a banned Bullfrog blueprint is breaking the game’s audio.
