Warzone May 7 patch notes: AMAX nerfed, shotgun & weapon updates, bug fixes

In a Warzone update on May 7, Raven Software have nerfed the CR-56 AMAX, adjusted the Streetsweeper Ground Loot, and provided bug fixes.

Raven Software has released a new Game Settings Update for Call of Duty: Warzone on all platforms on May 7, which has nerfed some of the game’s strongest weapons.

Although Warzone Season 3 brought a ton of weapon balance changes to the game, in an update on May 7, Raven Software have made further adjustments to Cold War and Modern Warfare’s weapons in an effort to better balance the loot pool.

Also, following complaints about Verdansk ’84’s Ground Loot, adjustments have been made to the Ground Loot, specifically the Streetsweeper Shotgun.

Here’s everything you need to know about Warzone’s May 7 update.

CR-56 AMAX nerfed

After Warzone Season 3’s buffs and nerfs, the CR-56 AMAX quickly climbed to the top of the pack. Although difficult to control, it was devastating in the hands of a skilled player. Raven teased that nerfs would be incoming, saying that “no king rules forever.”

In the May 7 update, they delivered on this nerf, reducing the AMAX’s damage by 1 (in Warzone only). Raven said it was performing better than they would have liked so they slightly nerfed it in the hope that this will “widen the selection of viable long-range Assault Rifles.”

With this small change, it’s likely to still be dominant, but there should hopefully be more choice for players.

Streetsweeper Ground Loot adjusted

Since the Streetsweeper full-auto shotgun arrived as Ground Loot in Verdansk ’84, it became a crutch item to carry until you got your own loadout. It was so dominant in close quarters that Raven described how it “fostered a dynamic where passive play was incentivized and rewarded.”

They said this playstyle isn’t “particularly compelling,” especially when there are very few weapons that can counter it, so they have removed all variants from the ground and Supply Boxes except for the Legendary Blueprint.

Warzone Verdansk ’84 map exploits fixed

Since Warzone’s Verdansk ’84 map arrived, players have been abusing glitch spots such as finding their way under Stadium to get cheap kills.

Raven patched a few of these spots before, but have now fixed “locations in Verdansk that allowed players to reach out-of-bounds areas.” They confirmed that these are on top of those patched before.

GAMEPLAY

    • The Streetsweeper’s wide availability fostered a dynamic where passive play was incentivized and rewarded. We do not think this type of play is particularly compelling for either party when players do not have the necessary tools in the early-game to effectively counter it.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed additional map locations in Verdansk that allowed players to reach out-of-bounds areas. This is on top of the locations that we addressed last week.
  • Fixed a bug causing Player models to initially load as low resolution at the start of a BR match.
  • Fixed a bug with the Cold War AK-47, FARA 83, XM4, and RPD where they were having their ADS Move Speed and Firing Move Speeds decreased with the Tactical and SAS Combat/Spetsnaz Stocks rather than increased.

WEAPONS

We would like to preface the following Weapon changes by providing you with some insight on our thought process.

There are millions of you, and when we reduce the effectiveness of a weapon, we are bound to make a change to someone’s favorite gun. As players of this game ourselves, it pains us just as much. However, we remain torn. We are the custodians of this game—we make it for you. In the same light, we are charged with maintaining the health and integrity of the game. In some instances, this requires us to reduce the effectiveness of some universally cherished weapons. When we make a change like this, our intent is the promotion of diversity. We believe what makes a game truly engaging is choice. When we diminish that choice, we take away the agency to play the game your way. This can happen when a weapon becomes so effective that simply not utilizing it puts you at a disadvantage. 

With that being said, we feel we are close to a ‘balance homeostasis’ where most options are at the very least viable. Which leaves us to address Time to Kill. The following balance changes are part of our ongoing efforts to raise TTK or at least the individual skill required to reach extreme ones. We ask that you consider these changes not as targeted attacks, but rather as part of a larger initiative to raise the skill ceiling.

We want to give you the runway and the platform to show us your epic plays and proudest moments. We hope that journey of mastery brings you as much enjoyment as it does us.

  • Assault Rifles
    • CR-56 AMAX
      • Minimum Damage decreased from 32 to 31 (Warzone Only)
      • With a great damage profile, locational multipliers, and manageable recoil, the CR-56 AMAX was able to reliably reach extreme TTKs at long-range. This change reduces its fastest minimum damage TTK by about 17% in addition to its slowest minimum damage TTK by an additional shot. Its fastest maximum damage TTK however, remains intact—which is a risk we feel is equal to the reward considering how unforgiving its rate of fire is and how many other weapons it has to contest with in the mid-range engagement space. The CR-56 AMAX is just a tad more dominant than we would like it to be and with this change, our aim is to widen the selection of viable long-range assault rifles.
         
    • FARA 83
      • Headshot Multiplier decreased from 1.5 to 1.35
      • Base ADS Move Speed decreased by 7%
      • When combined with a mobility-based stock, the FARA 83 was capable of reaching exceedingly fast ADS firing speeds. We like how the FARA 83 plays, but it is a bit too versatile currently. As part of our efforts to increase the overall Time to Kill, we are reducing the FARA 83’s fastest TTK by 16.6% to compensate for its generous rate of fire and recoil control.
         
  • Shotguns
    • Streetsweeper
      • Base Hip Spread increased
      • Recoil increased slightly
      • ADS speed reduced slightly
      • While shotguns tend to have limited viability outside of early game, we find the Streetsweeper is a tad too effective given its rate of fire and ammo capacity when compared to other weapons of its class. This change will decrease its lethal range slightly, punish inaccurate sustained fire, and give a little more time to react. 
         
  • Submachine Guns
    • Bullfrog
      • Maximum Damage decreased from 34 to 32
      • Maximum Damage Range increased by 11%
      • Base Move Speed increased by 1%
      • Sprint Out Speed increased by 13%
      • The Bullfrog’s exceptional headshot multiplier has allowed it to reach one of the fastest TTKs in the game. While this change does not directly affect that multiplier, it does diminish its output. This change reduces the Bullfrog’s ability to consistently achieve extreme TTKs, while not removing it entirely. We felt it was too easy to consistently reduce the TTK to these ranges, so we are asking for a bit more accuracy in exchange for the Bullfrog’s attractive stat line. We are hesitant to label this an outright ‘nerf’ as we believe there is more value to a weapon than its damage alone.
         
    • PPSh-41
      • Maximum Damage Range increased by 4%
      • Open Bolt Delay decreased by 80%
      • We would like to push SMGs in different and interesting directions to distinguish them from one another. Ideally, we are providing a myriad of options within each weapon category that are supplementary to a multitude of diverse playstyles. In that vein, we are going to push the PPSh-41’s identity in a way that continues to diversify it from its competition in meaningful ways. To us, the PPSh-41 is the quick to fire, high-capacity, short-to-mid range SMG. Not every weapon needs to have the highest TTK potential, but every weapon should at least feel viable and have a niche where it excels given a complementary playstyle.

      • As we continue assess the place of Cold War snipers within Warzone, we realize there is much work to be done. In addition to improving the overall efficacy of these weapons and attachments, we will also be taking a close look at their optics. This includes addressing attachment pros where there are few, if any, use cases. In specific… we may see a Cold War equivalent to an immensely popular Modern Warfare sniper attachment very soon.

  • It is crucial to maintain an engagement space where each weapon type can excel, lest we risk guns becoming analogous. In that regard, some weapon types were able to elude mobility as a core weakness given the right attachments. We believe this is in part why assault rifles have been able to assume the role of submachine guns. While it is a priority for us to maintain and embrace gameplay differences between Modern Warfare and Cold War guns, we felt movement speed modifiers in their current state would undermine gameplay integrity and overall weapon diversity if left unchecked. These stocks are still a solid choice, even with such a substantial reduction—which we believe speaks to just how strong they were.

Finally, we would like to address concerns that we are only going to be making changes to Cold War weapons. In the future, we fully intend on taking a closer look at some of the Modern Warfare weapons that have been struggling.

Warzone players claim hit registration is “worse than ever” on Caldera

Hitting your shots is everything when it comes to succeeding in Warzone, but some players feel something is off with the hit registration.

Warzone players have been experiencing some issues with hit registration on Caldera, claiming it has “gotten really bad.”

Hit registration has always been a hot topic when it comes to Call of Duty, and it’s no surprise that it is being brought up regarding Warzone at a time when there seems to be an abundance of issues with the game.

The game’s performance has been poor, even causing the delay of Season 2 for Warzone and Vanguard and now there seems to be another issue the devs will have to deal with.

In an attempt to see if the community has also had similar experiences with hit registration, Reddit user TheTrueAlCapwn put a post up in the Warzone subreddit for players to discuss the topic after feeling as if something is “off.”

In the post, the player explains incidents where they either get “no hit markers at all” or felt as if their shots had become nonexistent in the kill cam: “I’ll hit 8 shots, but when you watch the damage go down on the other player his health will decrease say 5 times, like the other 3 just didn’t exist.”

It seems they aren’t alone in feeling as if the hit registration is off. A comment under the post stated:

“It’s happening a lot…It happens in the gulag especially for me. I’ll start shooting a guy and he’s one bullet away from death, and then all of the sudden I’m dead from…a bullet. Then I watch the killcam and he’s lighting me the hell up.”

Most of the comments express similar feelings about the hit registration, with another user also sharing the same opinion about the Gulag: “Its been worse than ever, unloading entire clips into people and having them cracked or literally one shot and suddenly they just instantly shred you…the gulag is where it really shines.”

As the post suggests, perhaps the “new map has more graphical load, server load and hit registration maybe suffers.” However, this is just speculation and it is unclear what exactly is causing players to feel as if the hit registration has gotten worse.


We’ll have to wait and see what the devs do about the issues and whether the recent delay to Season 2 in order to fix issues will solve this bug.

Warzone January 20 update patch notes: Instant reload glitch, bug fixes & Katana buff

Warzone’s developers Raven Software released a small patch on January 20 that’s sought to remove the glitch that lets players fire weapons continuously without reloading, fixed exploitable areas of Caldera, and given the Katana a major buff.

Warzone players have been desperate for some of Warzone’s most game-breaking glitches to be fixed. Raven Software released a small update on January 20, dealing with a few minor issues affecting the game.

The January 20 update has patched an issue that cancels out reload animations, fixed some areas that players were glitching through, and buffed the Katana melee weapon.

Warzone’s instant reload glitch removed

Warzone players discovered that the Type 11 LMG had a major glitch where players could continuously fire without reloading. All they had to do was quickly switch weapons after hitting the reload button, and their ammo would fill back up instantly.

Warzone’s devs patched this in the January 20 update, so players should no longer be able to fire any weapons continuously without reloading.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed collision issues with various elements across Caldera allowing Players to exploit/peek/shoot through them.
  • Fixed an issue causing the menu screen to flicker when attempting to join a friend or queue with a party. 
  • Fixed an issue with reload animations allowing certain Weapons to fire continuously.
  • Fixed an issue causing Private Lobby hosts to crash.
  • Fixed an issue causing the regular/Advanced UAV rewards from Big Game Bounty and [TOP SECRET] Contracts to not trigger if the player was in a vehicle or anti-air gun.

Weapons

  • Katana (VG)
    • Damage increased from 135 to 150
    • Standing Charge Range increased by 36.5%
    • Crouching Charge Range increased by 17%
    • Move Speed decreased by 2%

The next major Warzone update will be Season 2, which has now been delayed to February 14 while the developers work on including some more much-needed fixes.

After Warzone Pacific introduced a brand new map, players who like to engage in long-range combat will be eager to find a great sniper class. Here’s our best Kar98k loadout for Warzone Pacific Caldera.

With Vanguard introducing over 40 more guns into Call of Duty’s battle royale, some Warzone players will be flustered with the amount of choice.

Sniping has always been a great playstyle in Verdansk, and in the new Warzone Pacific Caldera map, it remains dominant with a familiar sniper returning. For those looking to take advantage of long-range engagements on Caldera, here’s the best Vanguard Kar98k loadout you can use.

Best Perks and Equipment to use with the Kar98k

Best Kar98k attachments for Warzone Pacific

  • Muzzle: F8 Stabilizer
  • Barrel: VDD RE02K
  • Stock: Short Stock
  • Underbarrel: SMLE Pistol Grip
  • Magazine: 8mm Klauser 3 Round Mag
  • Ammunition: Lengthened
  • Rear Grip: Fabric Rear Grip
  • Perk: Fleet
  • Perk 2: Deep Breath

First off, the F8 Stabilizer will help boost accuracy and damage range, allowing you to hit targets at greater distances. Combined with the VDD RE02K barrel, which increases bullet velocity, the one-hit-kill area, and accuracy, you’ll be taking people down with ease.

Another great attachment that will increase bullet velocity is the Lengthened Ammo Type. This will ensure that your bullets will hit faster and more accurately from range.

The Short Stock is a great attachment for those looking to use the Kar98k as a quick scoping sniper. It increases your movement speed, ADS speed, sprint to fire speed, and aim walking movement speed. At the cost of some accuracy and recoil control, this attachment makes the Kar98k a great high-power mid-range option with mobility.

Next up we have the SMLE Pistol Grip and Fabric Rear Grip. The Fabric Grip will increase mobility, making sure you hit your target first, while the SMLE Pistol Grip will increase sprint to fire speed.

Despite decreasing the magazine size, the 8mm Klauser 3 Round Mag will also increase the aim down sight speed, as well as speed up the reload time.

Lastly, the two Perk attachments we have chosen are Fleet and Deep Breath. Fleet will have you moving as quickly as possible which will enable you to take the Kar98k into close quarters while also increasing weapon swap quickness. Meanwhile, Deep Breath will allow players to steady their aim while aiming down sight for longer.

Best Perks and Equipment to use with the Kar98k

  • Perk 1: E.O.D.
  • Perk 2: Overkill
  • Perk 3: Amped
  • Secondary: MP40
  • Lethal: Molotov
  • Tactical: Stun

EOD will protect you from any explosive and fire damage that isn’t related to killstreaks, which is great for a gun that you are more likely to be holding areas down with.

Overkill gives you the option for a more close-ranged gun, and we chose the MP40, as it’s a solid close to medium range option in Warzone Pacific.

For the final Perk, we chose Amped. This Perk allows you to switch weapons faster, which is great for any sniper loadout as it means you will be able to pull your secondary weapon out quickly so that you aren’t out-gunned from close range.

The Molotov is great for getting players out of camping spots and the Stun will buy you more time for when things are getting sticky.

How to unlock the Kar98k in Warzone Pacific

In order to unlock the Kar98k in Warzone Pacific, players must reach Level 43 in Sledgehammer Games‘ Vanguard Multiplayer.

Alternatives to the Kar98k in Warzone Pacific

Some other alternatives to the Kar98k include the 3 Line Rifle, which is another Sniper Rifle worth giving a shot. If you’re looking for something a little different give the MG42 LMG a go, as it can also be deadly from range.
