Activision has peeled back the curtain on what to expect in Season One of Call of Duty: Warzone with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
In a massive blog post, the company has given fans information on the new Warzone map, Rebirth Island, the new Gulag experiences in Warzone, new weapons, and more for players to experience.
Call of Duty: Warzone x Black Ops Cold War Season One will also see the full integration between the games starting on December 16, with progression, Battle Pass, and more carrying between the two titles.
New Map – Rebirth Island
Warzone delivers with a mass of free content including an entirely new battle royale experience: Rebirth Island.
An illicit Soviet base raided and shut down by the CIA in 1968, during which Operator Russell Adler caught and forcefully interrogated the base commander Vikhor “Stitch” Kuzmin. The facility was rebuilt and recommissioned by Stitch in 1984 with one purpose: the creation and testing of the deadly Nova 6 gas.
Part prison, part chemical bioweapons manufacturing and testing facility, the entire island has dozens of locations to explore including laboratories, barracks, decontamination areas, and a hilltop prison block where unspeakable acts have been perpetrated.
Expect intense, close-quarter action with a similar playstyle to Warzone’s Mini BR mode as Rebirth Island comes to Warzone. Planned playlists include Trios and Quads with a lower player count than in Verdansk, amping up the action and intensity.
To celebrate this new Warzone map experience, expect an intense and rewarding limited-time event offering 16 challenges for those dropping into Rebirth Island for the first time. Earn Calling Cards, Charms, Emblems, Stickers, a special LMG Blueprint “Noxious”, along with additional secrets to uncover!
New Gulag Experiences
New Verdansk Gulag Experience (Launch Week)
It’s time to step out of the Gulag showers as prisoners of Warzone are now dragged to an interrogation room, strapped to a chair, and thrown into an all-new Gulag where the 1v1 battle rules are similar, but the arena is completely different! Watch from the spectator gantry, spraying, punching, or lobbing rocks at adversaries before entering the secret training facility below: A new yet instantly familiar face-off in a Nuketown facsimile built by the Soviets who constructed Black Ops Cold War’s Amerika Town!
The design is a makeshift replica of the original Nuketown map layout with both home interiors and backyard barricaded off, focusing the duel to a confined central arena. Prisoners must now weave through or around the parked bus and faux truck to meet their target or take a risk by climbing up one of the home’s awnings to get solid sightlines across the zone. As usual, the last Operator standing, or the one that grabs the central overtime flag, gets a second chance in Verdansk.
New Rebirth Island Gulag Experience (Launch Week)
There’s a second new Gulag coming to Warzone! Deep below the surface of Rebirth Island’s Prison Block, prisoners are dragged to an ominous new arena during traditional Battle Royale modes. This classified location has a grim history, as certain inmates were experimented on as part of Perseus’ plot to turn the tide of the Cold War.
This new 1v1 experience is centered around the chamber in question, with prisoners of Warzone starting on the end of one of two hallways that run parallel to the center room. Although these pathways offer a quick route across the floor, both of them have a metal detector that will go off whenever an Operator passes through, adding an additional element of strategy to this intense duel for survival. And remember: your fellow prisoners can still lob rocks down into the arena while they wait for their shot at a second chance.
New Mode – Resurgence
New Game Mode: Resurgence (Launch Week)
Think you’re dead? It’s not over yet: This new game mode for Rebirth Island focuses on respawning as a key to victory. Scavenge caches and gear up as normal, hunt down other squads, and focus on dropping every last one of them, otherwise they’re liable to respawn and seek revenge!
· The Gulag is closed (likely for some deep fumigation).
· After taking out an enemy, you’ll gain a moment of extreme clarity on where the rest of that enemy team is located. Now finish them!
· If you’re taken down, there’s no time for a Gulag battle in this game mode! Instead, watch your squadmates and hope they survive for long enough as the Rebirth Countdown reaches zero, after which you automatically drop back into the fray.
New Vehicle: Attack Helicopter (In Season)
Bring death from above to Verdansk and Rebirth Island with the Attack Helicopter, the latest addition to the Warzone vehicle fleet! This airborne menace is built to similar specifications as the regular Helicopter, but with one major exception: Mounted on both of the helicopter’s side rails is a belt-fed minigun that can be controlled by a fellow squad member. Finding an Attack Helicopter is not only a boon for those looking for a rapid travel option, but also raining down dozens of bullets on other squads without needing to use a primary or secondary weapon. Just know that this tiny terror is anything but subtle, especially when both miniguns are in use!

How to unlock the Swiss K31 in Warzone & Cold War Season 3
Here’s how to unlock Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 3’s fast-firing bolt action Sniper Rifle, the Swiss K31.
Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 3 will be introducing a new sniper, the Swiss K31, so here’s how you can get your hands on this new bolt-action rifle.
Season 3 of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone has officially been revealed. On top of new maps and Operators, players can bolster their arsenal with new weapons – the legendary Ballistic Knife, classic PPSH, and the all-new Swiss K31 Sniper Rifle.
The Swiss K31 follows Season 2’s ZRG 20mm Sniper Rifle, but appears to be the polar opposite. While the ZRG is heavy, powerful, and slow, the K31 is described as having “exceptional accuracy, as well as fast rechamber and aiming speeds with a large ammo capacity.”
Here’s how to unlock this new, fast Sniper Rifle in Cold War and Warzone Season 3.
Swiss K31 unlock requirements in Cold War & Warzone Season 3
Players can get their hands on the Swiss K31 Sniper Rifle by simply reaching Tier 31 in the Season 3 Battle Pass. And if you miss out on it in Season 3, it will be available later through a challenge.

You don’t have to pay anything either. The weapon is included as part of the free version of the Battle Pass, so simply play games, rack up Scorestreaks, score Warzone Victories, and you’ll have your hands on it in no time.
This is the second weapon you’ll unlock in the Battle Pass, as the PPSH will be unlocked at Tier 15. These weapons aren’t all there is though as the Ballistic Knife will also be included when the season begins, likely locked behind a challenge.
Following Cold War’s integration with Warzone, the K31 will be available in both battle royale and multiplayer. The devs described how, “Aggressive sharpshooters will be in their element with this new rifle, whether it’s sniping out in the wilds of Warzone or pushing forward on objectives in Black Ops Cold War.”
The Kar98k has long dominated Warzone as the aggressive sniper, but it’s possible the Swiss K31 will take its spot in the sniping meta.

Best Sykov loadout for CoD: Warzone Season 2
The Sykov Pistol is Warzone’s best secondary weapon. Here are the attachments and perks you should be running with it.
The Sykov Pistol, or Makarov, has dominated Warzone and Modern Warfare. Here are the meta attachments and perks to win all close-range engagements with this unique sidearm.
In a quiet update on April 15, the long-awaited Sykov Pistol was added to Modern Warfare and Warzone. Along with this powerful Pistol came new Radiation Zones that are spreading across Verdansk and turning players into Zombies.
Metas usually take a few days or even weeks to form, but the Sykov became the go-to weapon overnight. Warzone’s developer responded to its dominance quickly, nerfing their most powerful attributes in April 19’s 1.35 update.
Best Warzone Sykov attachments
- Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
- Barrel: Sorokin 140mm Auto
- Laser: 5mW Laser
- Ammunition: 20 Round Mags
- Rear Grip: VLK Elita
This Sykov is built to be the perfect complement for any Ghost class, even being able to outgun an FFAR 1 at close range.
To start, the Monolithic Suppressor will grant you extra range, meaning you don’t need to be directly in the enemy’s face to get the kill. And the 5mW Laser will give you much more hip-fire accuracy if you’re in a pinch.
Unfortunately, the Akimbo perk for the Sykov has been nerfed, so you’re better off only running one Sykov. To improve its recoil control, you should add the VLK Elita Rear Grip, and the Sorokin 140mm Auto barrel is still perfect for melting players’ armor off.
And following the nerfs in the 1.35 update, the 80 Round Drum mags will significantly lower your mobility, so the 20 Round Mags will be ideal.
Best perks to run with Warzone’s Sykov
- Perk 1: E.O.D
- Perk 2: Ghost
- Perk 3: Amped
You’ll spend a lot of time in enemies’ faces while using the Sykov, which means you’re in prime range to get taken out by explosives. Running E.O.D will greatly reduce explosive damage, meaning you can run through a bombardment of explosives to secure the kill.
The Sykov Pistol is a secondary weapon, so you don’t need Overkill to combine it with a primary weapon. Ghost will hide you from the minimap and Heartbeat Sensors, which is invaluable in Warzone.
As you’ll only be using this sidearm when fighting up close, you’ll need to run a weapon for medium-long range. Amped will allow you to rapidly change your weapons, getting the right gun out for any situation.
How to unlock the Sykov in Warzone & Modern Warfare
To unlock the Sykov Pistol in Modern Warfare and Warzone, you have to get 4 kills while using pistols in 5 different matches.

This is best completed in Hardcore mode of Modern Warfare’s multiplayer, but can also easily be completed in Plunder. Check out our full guide for some tips and tricks to complete this easier.
Best alternatives to the Sykov Pistol
The Sykov Pistol excels in close-range combat thanks to its full-auto mode, but there are other weapons that fit the bill. If you’re looking to dominate up close, the AS VAL melts players at close range. Also, if you’re looking for other pistols, the akimbo Diamattis will provide similar firepower.
It’s expected that the Sykov will dominate the close range meta going into Season 3, so this Pistol is well worth unlocking and ranking up.

JGOD explains whether or not Warzone Kilo got secret buff
Warzone expert JGOD has crunched the numbers and explains if the Kilo received a secret buff in the popular Call of Duty battle royale.
The chatter in the Call of Duty: Warzone community regarding a possible secret buff to the Kilo 141 led statistics master JGOD to test and see if the assault rifle did indeed receive some unannounced improvements
There was a lengthy period of time where the Kilo 141 assault rifle was seen as the deadliest weapon for Warzone players when they were battling on Verdansk. However, following the integration of content from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the Kilo took a backseat to the best weapons from Treyarch’s latest entry in the franchise.
The Kilo still finds itself used in loadouts by players who prefer its low-recoil and damage output, and recent discussion in the Warzone community has focused on the weapon possibly getting a secret buff to its stats.
This talk of a possible improvement for the Kilo was the focus of an April 19, 2021 video from YouTuber JGOD, the master of Call of Duty: Warzone statistics.
In the video, JGOD explains that he did not see any increase in the damage output of the Kilo when it came to Warzone, as it still took 14 shots to take down an enemy through his testing.
Moving on to the damage output at various ranges for the assault rifle, JGOD describes how the damage output for the Kilo in Warzone is the same as it was when it was a top meta choice for players over the past year, with it taking 11 or fewer shots to kill an enemy.
However, the damage output past 86 meters is currently at 14 shots to kill, which was implemented for the assault rifle following the integration of Black Ops Cold War into the battle royale title.
JGOD explains that some players may feel that the Kilo is killing faster than usual due to team shooting where a player’s teammates are also dishing out damage towards an enemy player.
Looking into detailed numbers for kill to death ratios and time to kill for the Kilo over the past few months of Warzone, JGOD found that the data did not support the idea of there having been a secret buff to the weapon, as it is currently ranking behind multiple other weapons for these important areas.
There is no doubt that fans of the Kilo will be hoping for a major buff to the weapon when Season 3 of Warzone kicks off this week. If not, there will still be a variety of new weapons for players to try out.
