A significant change coming to the Gulag is one of many mechanics undergoing modification when Warzone Pacific Season 1 launches on December 8.

Players are chomping at the bit to get their hands on Call of Duty’s newest Battle Royale
iteration
. After traversing the same map for almost two years, fans are understandably excited for this new Pacific adventure.

The setting is not the only thing that is set to undergo drastic changes. Prior to the December 8 release of Warzone Pacific, Activision has released a ton of new information about the new map and game mode. Players couldn’t help but notice one major change coming to the Gulag.

Warzone Pacific’s new and improved Gulag

Classic warzone gulag

The Gulag is a Warzone staple. Despite undergoing several different landscape changes, the essence of the Gulag has remained the same since day one. Two players face off in a one-on-one engagement. Both players use the same generated loadout. The winner then drops back into the map.

The Gulag is an iconic element that sets Call of Duty’s Battle Royale apart from the competition. The devs understood that allowing players a second lease on life is a great way to give players multiple chances to be the last one standing.

Traditionally, players who win a Gulag fight would drop back into the map with only a Pistol to keep them company. This is the price players pay for returning to the match. The idea was to limit the possibilities upon return. Warzone Pacific: Caldera is disrupting the balance by allowing players to return with their Gulag loadout.

Players will carry over every single item they receive in the Gulag. It is important to note that these items do not restock if used by the Gulag winner. In other words, if you use your Lethal Grenade to damage your Gulag opponent, it isn’t replenished once your drop back into the map.

Players must be wise in how they approach their Gulag fight. Allowing players to drop back in with their Gulag loadout adds a new layer of strategy to your 1 vs 1 engagement. Preserving your equipment or using it to defeat your opponent will be a risk you’ll have to weigh up.

Players familiar with the Iron Trials Warzone game mode will already be accustomed to this new gameplay mechanic. As more is released about the Warzone Pacific Gulag, such as its layout, we’ll update this piece so stay tuned.

This is just one of many changes coming to Warzone on December 8. Check out these changes to the Gas Mask animation and Loadout Drop.
